Somebody has WAYYYYYY too much time on his hands
An Italian judge has dismissed an atheist's petition that a small-town priest should stand trial for asserting that Jesus Christ existed, both sides said on Friday.
Luigi Cascioli, a 72-year-old retired agronomist, had accused the Rev. Enrico Righi of violating two laws with the assertion, which he called a deceptive fable propagated by the Roman Catholic Church.
Cascioli, a former schoolmate of Righi's, said he had not expected the case to succeed in overwhelmingly Roman Catholic Italy.
"This is not surprising but it doesn't mean it all ends here," he said, adding that he's considering taking the case to the European Court of Human Rights.

The European High Court of Human Rights??? IMO this guy needs to find a hobby, like chess, bocci ball or something.

(as well as other such nonsense) don't have too much time on their hands? :eyes:

3. They do too
Why do the two have to go hand-in-hand? It almost sounds like you're defending this guy.

6. While I think he's going about it the wrong way
It would be interesting to have the whole idea of Jesus' existence proven or disproven. Then we could get the whole Christianity mess straightened out, and lots of opression and death could be prevented.

7. If they claim god exists and that they have proof,
why shouldn't they be expected to cough it up?

I'm just spending the time studying for my Net+ exam.

I got some more MST3K DVDs for my birthday. :bounce: I watched one at my friend's the other night, Angel's Revenge, if you haven't seen that one it is one of the funniest I've ever seen.

17. I have been neglecting
my need for entertainment lately, thanks for reminding me.

I will definitely make a trip to the video store this week, a fix of MST3K is in order!
If I can't find them, there's always the Evil Dead movies.

18. "Angel's Revenge" Almost killed me
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 02:12 AM by GreenJ
It was this rip-off of Charlie's Angels and when Crow made this one hysterical comment while I was drinking my beer I ended up choking for a few minutes. :D

I finally completed my collection of Evil Dead movies a month or two ago. Those are always fun to watch.

BTW I watched John Carpenter's The Thing, thanks for the recommendation it was a great movie.

15. Of course not
And they never kill people, engage in wars, repress people or commit other atrocities in the name of their peaceful religion either.

16. They keep to themselves. I don't understand why other people have
to get involved in their religion, it's a private matter.

It would be interesting to see how that particular claim would hold up under secular standards of jurisprudence.

5. He has a point
about how the church uses superstition to oppress people.

Whether or not someone believes in deities, the fact that people are used by organized religion cannot be denied.

10. i think the point is mute
whether jesus existed or not (i lean towards probably not) the power of the church has never been in Jesus hands...always with the priests.
