Gods and Genuises
Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 01:44 PM by Evoman
Hey, I was just reading this LONG excerp from William Blakes' THE MARRIAGE OF HEAVEN AND HELL and I thought I would just post it here for those unfamiliar with Blake.

The ancient Poets animated all sensible objects with
Gods or Geniuses, calling them by the names
and adorning them with the properties of woods, rivers,
mountains, lakes, cities, nations, and whatever their
enlarged & numerous senses could percieve.
And particularly they studied the genius of each
city & country, placing it under its mental deity;
Till a system was formed, which some took
advantage of & enslav'd the vulgar by attempting to
realize or abstract the mental deities from their
objects: thus began Priesthood;
Choosing forms of worship from poetic tales.
And at length they pronounc'd that the Gods had
order'd such things.
Thus men forgot that All deities reside in the
human breast

God is a human invention that we invented to explain all the things we cant understand. Why can some of us realize that god is in our breast and kill it, and other can't? Or is that begging the question!

believes that God is a human invention? It is, after all, only your opinion.

3. Yeah, thats what I meant by begging the question
What if god IS real, right?

Thats the funny thing about beliefs and opinions. Everybody thinks they are right, and seldom are.

Lol..except in this case. I am right ;)

4. Heheheh
ok, here's a huge admission. I have never understood what "begging the question means." And I consider myself a language freak.

One of my greatest hopes for the hereafter is that I will know who was right and who was wrong! And of course I'm right.

2. Thanks for posting the Blake snip
I am more familiar with his painting than with his writing.

It makes sense to me.

5. Couldn't it also be possible that....
there's a God out there and that people have sought to dispel his existence by attributing his "imaginary creation" to weakness within the human psyche?
