is my first natural response. Usually I just nod.
I don't hear a lot of it, thankfully. I don't get into religious discussions with people. They DON'T want to hear what I have to say.

3. I might ask, " what does that mean and when was the last time you ... |
|
you spent time with your children and when did you last time you made a donation to poor people, etc.? What does Christ say about compassion, tolerance and love?"

4. That one alway makes me think |
|
of the adage by some crusty American, probably Emerson originally, along the lines of "Don't tell me you're Christian- make it obvious to me from your behavior."

the key is not that they think of themselves as christians; the key is that they feel compelled to announce it.
my experience has been that the good christians are the ones who you never know are christians until they invite you into their home and you see a quote from the new testament on the wall.

20. Anytime someone comes into my business |

and announces that they are a Christian and that I should give them special pricing, I always do. At least 10 - 15% more then I would normally charge.

If they try to discuss the matter any further I'll tell them I don't discuss religion at work or wherever it is I'm at.

If it is possible to get pistachios that are kosher (even kosher for Passover), there is no Biblical injunction against eating them :hi:
Shrimp, oysters, catfish, ham and cheeseburgers, on the other hand....

13. I'm happy for them as long as they don't propogandize me. |
|
I respect one's right to religion as long as their goal is not to convert or force me to live their religious practices. But, I would more than likely change the subject to the weather, not sports. Nor do I approve of using public institutions to convert my children.

14. My answer is: "Sorry to hear that...you brainwashed hypocrite"...Opps.. |
|
The last part I don't usually say...just think it...but I usually feel sorry for them...and say so...
Then when I "test" their faith...against how they live and treat others...they get mad at me...for pointing out their hypocracy...and foolishness for not questioning what they've been taught...
Most "good people" I have met, or know...do not have a need or desire to "wear their religion" on their sleeves...I personally live my faith...no one need know...but me...

15. I should clarify a bit more... |
|
I was joking about thinking they were hypocrits...I truly try to understand them first and see why they felt the need to announce their faith to me...
I've never go down this road unless asked...and if they are "just curious" it usually means they want to imprint me with their beliefs and/or convert me...
I don't have the true arrogance to push my own faith on anyone...my thoughts and beliefs aren't any better than anyone else's...unless they think I'm "damned"...then the gloves come off...politely...that is... then I will point out their inconsistencies and illogic...as I see it...

17. I would and have asked them why...... |
|
and then tell them, "all you have to do is... believe in yourself". and "don't start saying....I'll pray for you!!!"
I don't like statements like, "I'll pray for you" It's usually said in a condescending way and reeks of the "holier than thou" attitude and usually indicates that the Christian is self-important.

18. Where's the option for "Get away as soon as possible."? |
|
In a country where Christianity is the predominant religion, people who feel the need to make it an issue...their Christianity that is...also have a weird persecution complex.
How you can envision yourself a martyr in a country where 95% of people share your religion is beyond me.
But they do exist.

I can't imagine a circumstance under which anyone I encountered would come out and say it like that. They might say, "My church is having a rummage sale" or "If you call before noon just leave a message, we'll be at church" but friends and family don't mention it and strangers don't declare it.
Only place it happens is on the internets, where the context determines how I may or may not choose to respond.
