Absolute Proof That Ghosts Exist!
A trustworthy source has told me that forty people in Stockholm heard a disembodied voice speaking in Swedish. Here is a translation from Swedish into English:

"I am the ghost of Alfred Nobel. It has come to my attention that an extremely offensive cartoon was published. The cartoon mocks Linus Pauling, winner of two Nobel prizes. I will speak again later to name the authors and publishers of the cartoon. When I provide that information, it will be a solemn duty for all Nobel prize nominees who are skilled in the arts of voodoo to cast spells on the evil people responsible for the publication of that cartoon.

In order to avoid leaving a sour impression, let me say that I am really quite pleased with current events around the world. In fact, the publishing of that cartoon was the worst thing that has happened recently. Please keep up the good work and don't sweat small stuff like Darfur."

4. Actually, you can't use this thread to manufacture explosives, so there
is some doubt about the value of the contribution.

5. I indeed liked Linus Pauling and his works. The ghost of
Alfred Nobel is full of shit however.

Alfred Nobel

6. For the moment, let's assume that the ghost is serious
If so, then this sounds to me like a multi-stage campaign to impart credibility to some of Pauling's advocacy of extreme megadoses of vitamin C.

Let's see what the ghost next has to say...

7. Incidentally, Pauling won the Nobel Peace Prize
Something about banning the bomb.

Pauling was one of the most influential organizers of the disarmament movement. Back in those days, he was hated, despised, and vilified by right-wingers for wanting to get rid of nuclear weapons.

Of course, today, he is posthuously hated, despised, and vilified over the vitamin C controversy. It's like with Benjamin Spock, another Ban-the-Bomb notable, who is mainly known as the guy who opposed spanking children (and ditto the hate-despise-vilify cycle).

Vitamins and spanking. History is funny that way.

8. Oh, THAT Linus Pauling
I thought you meant the kid with the blanket, but then I remembered that that was Linus van Pelt. Silly me.

Perhaps you inferred that I was seeking to discredit Pauling's many laudable achievements. Not so! The reason I mentioned the megadosing is that Pauling is trotted out by advocates of that dubious practice, and he's invariably touted as the Nobel prizewinner, in an apparent effort to give his claims an air of greater authority on the subject due to his standing in other fields. Since the "ghost whisperer" crowd is often very receptive to the unsubstantiated claims of alternative "medicine" (to which vitamin megadosing belongs), my bullshit detector was activiated by the framing of the article. I'll suspend further judgment at this point, but I reserve the right to declare "neener neener" if my supposition is borne out.

9. I can understand that skeptics wanted to wait for hard evidence of ghosts.
The evidence is this thread. The skeptics have been persuaded. Now everyone here can agree that ghosts exist.

10. I feel we should reserve judgment until an entire panel of ghosts,
preferably a multi-cultural panel of ghosts, has weighed in.

A rush to conclusions here could be calamitous.
