1. Oh yeah - and Noah had them on the Ark, too.
And that's why we REALLY don't have any unicorns!

16. Thanks, Trotsky
I knew there had to be a reference to something. I hate being out of the loop. Haven't watched SNL much in the last few years.

6. wow. I love how he debunks science with faith
or something like that... </sarcasm>

His speech reminds me of a snake-oil salesman or other con artist - keep it flowing, keep it rhythmic, mildly amusing, and fill it with important sounding "facts" without really saying much.

Ans watching his audience sit there and shake their heads at the obvious explanation that if a reptile never stops growing and lived to be 900 years old, well then of course it's a dinosaur..... well, it just doesn't give me much faith.

Can we please somehow stop the damage that the anti-learning crowd has done?

8. ...
Wow... WTF is that guy on? Water below the earth... in the liquid mantle? WTF?!

"Did you know that Adam spoke every language in the world?" Yeah, its because at that time it was, "Oog, gu-huRAGH!"

"Reptiles never stop growing." Yes they do (I think. Not a herpatologist)

"What if you let a reptile let to be 900 years old? (I dunno, a decaying heap of bones?)."

"Dinosaurs did not live millions of years ago (because the guys who wrote the bible are infalible)."

"Billy was wrong on ." Uh, actually Billy Grahm did get that one right.

"The first life form found something to marry..." O_o? The first life form were bacterium, asshat

"We'd like to show you how dumb you Christians really are" <--- made up this story/statement

"You're teaching you're students that all the dogs came from a rock." WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! The oxygen necessary to make more complex life was abosirbed by the rock. The rock didn't create the life >_< ASSHAT!

By this asshat's every person on this earth was made through incest.... but wait, that's against the laws of God... and so if that's true then, then *malfunction error*

9. I got about 1/4 way through that video,
and stopped to Google "Kent Hovind". Rather than cite pertinent websites, I'll suggest that all here do the same. Look at the admiring (and credulous) audience. Few if any are geniuses, but few if any are inbred cretins. Nobody here on DU is likely to buy a used car from that snake oil charlatan, but they most certainly will. And unlike about 30 years ago, close to 90% of them will most certainly VOTE!

We have a problem, and it won't go away just by sneering at those "deluded boobs". I'm about 1/3d of the way through Kevin Phillips "American Theocracy" (Audible.com version), and that's just what he's getting at. SCAREY!

11. They're still here
Hovind explains that reptiles never stop growing and back in the day they lived 900 some-odd years. So, the creatures that used to be the size of a city bus are cute little geckos today because they die sooner.

18. Adam didn't exist...
"Adam and Eve" is just a story with a message behind it. Mixing it with science is what makes it sound ridiculous. The real purpose of the story is fine but when it is used as history or science it is easy to ridicule.

20. Lilith...
...is a story from the Midrash (Jewish text). According to the Midrash she was the first woman and she was created equal to Adam. Lilith is the heroine for the Jewish feminist movement. I guess she was too opinionated for Adam so he dumped Lilith and went for Eve.

I guess it would be easier to blame Eve for the forbidden fruit deal. :-) The Midrash blames God for Eve eating from the forbidden tree because He never told her not to eat from the tree Himself and Adam paraphrased God's instruction to Eve with wrong information. Adam apparently added that if you touch the tree you would die. Eve touch the tree and didn't die so she ate the fruit thinking Adam was full of it.

According to my rabbi, the message of this Midrashic story is that the disproportionate centrality of men and male dominance breeds disaster. Assigning greater value to one human being over another is misguided and dangerous.

17. Its really funny
I love how a lot of these fundies misunderstand science or scientific theories, and then make elaborate defenses to protect themselves from their own misunderstandings. They don't actually protect themselves from things that would be considered scientific facts about 100 years ago..tand if they can't protect themselvse from what their opponents are really saying, they just end up looking like fucking morons.

Its like people who argue with evolution. They make up strawmans "Science says that everything is completely random" and then knock them down, "so the chances the eye was made randomly is one in a billion billion billion billion."

First of all fucknut..understand that science is not saying that everything is random. Thats a basic misunderstanding of evolution!
