Islamic Principles of Peace
My husband came across this website and I wanted to share it with you, as there has been a thread recently about Islam.

Here's the URL:

http://darvish.wordpress.com/

And excerpts (they come from the Hadiths, sayings of the Prophet (pbuh):

The messenger of God said to me (Anas), ‘Son, if you
are able, keep your heart from morning till night and
from night till morning free from malice towards
anyone.’

snip

Assist your brother Muslim, whether he be an oppressor
or an oppressed. ‘But how shall we do it when he is an
oppressor?’ Muhammad said, ‘Assisting an oppressor is
by forbidding and withholding him from oppression.

snip

What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart
of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the
afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and
to remove the wrongs of the injured.

snip

After a major battle, defending the small community of
Islam against powerful enemies who sought to destroy
it, the Prophet said: “We have returned from the
lesser holy war (jihad) to the greater holy war.” When
asked what he meant by the greater war, the Prophet
replied, “Struggle against the ego (nafs).”

Please go and read the other selections at the site. It may give you a wider view of Islam.

Salaam.

1. Thank you Ayesha. I have bookmarked the site.
Our minds need to be exposed to the ideas of the great peace makers.
What if the the common ideas of peace expressed by all these major religions
were communicated by them with one voice?
I am fed up to here with the droning on and on by every tribe
about our differences.
Our differences are imagined.
Our common desires for peace are real and must be demanded by the people.

If all the people say no to war and yes to life then peace
on earth can be our work and not war, death and misery.

Look around us at those who insist on arguing about our differences.
They are afraid of peace. They fear the collective might of the people.

2. Wise and beautiful words
thank you for them. I think you are right. I like the idea of "earth can be our work", for I think that is very true.

Salaam.
