Evangelicals quiet about war in Lebanon
I rarely post in R/T anymore but I'm very interested in hearing reaction and thoughts of the people here to this story. I know there are self identified Liberal evangelicals so perhaps we have some people here that can speak fairly directly to this stance of the evangelical organization.

In the flurry of pro and con statements from American Christians regarding
Israel's strikes on Hezbollah guerrillas, one major religious group has remained notably quiet — evangelicals.

The biggest organizations in the movement, usually vocal backers of the Jewish state, have made no formal comment on the war in Lebanon despite pleas from Israelis that they do so.

Among those who have taken no official stand are the National Association of Evangelicals, which represents thousands of local churches and ministries, and the 16.2 million-member Southern Baptist Convention, the largest U.S. Protestant denomination.

The Rev. Ted Haggard, president of the evangelical association, insists the inaction is not a criticism of Israel, but reflects a new caution about the risks for Christians living in Muslim countries. After the Sept. 11 attacks, American evangelicals came out strongly against terrorists, with some calling Islam a violent religion. That created a backlash overseas.

2. Maronite is the correct spelling.
But, as this Wikipedia entry tells us, the Maronite Church is an Eastern church in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Perhaps the 'evangelicals' (I know too many evangelicals who are true Christians and not ReTHUGs perverting the doctrines for political gain) you are referring to have read too many Chick Publications which portray the Roman Catholic denomination as Evil Incarnate, and therefore really don't know what to do, until their 'divinely appointed ruler' b/k/a the pResident tells them what to believe.

Since the Israelis have been bombing the Maronite parts of Lebanon (considering the attitude the Maronites have had towards the Shi'ites for years), even the Maronites have begun expressing support for Hizbullah. It amazes me that the Israelis, with their usually good intelligence, were totally taken by suprise by the quality of the Hizbullah resistance. Evidently, Israel has been drinking the Neo-Con KoolAid along with Sore Loserman for so long that they don't pay attention to their own backyard.

The Christianist (I refuse to call fundamentalists Christian) Zionists, who misread the book of Revelations (a book inserted into the Bible to provide priests (generic use of term) with the punitive fear factor required of authoritarian religion (note that Joshua ben Joseph has very few punishments for believers). Without Revelations, priests would have few levers to manipulate the faithful. So, the Fundamentalist Christianists need Israel to 'win' so that 4 million Jews (with the exception of the 144,000 converts) can die hideously at Megiddo (the site of a tremendous battle between the Canaanites and Egyptians in roughly 1500 BCE - a battle so huge for the time, it was remembered for centuries in the area as the Ultimate Battle) in order to 'prove' their (Christianists) faith.

You may be observing that this entire enterprise is far too complex for the simple-minded Christianist Fundamentals to understand - this *extremely* short exposition (oops, sorry ReTHUG trolls, too many big words - ya need to buy a real dictionary, huh? - can you find these words?) doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the problems in any part of the Levant. The Iranians are laughing all the way to the bank.

Damn the ReTHUGs - they're too stupid to understand the string pulling the ayatollahs in Qom (not Tehran) have been doing to us, courtesy of the oil men in charge of the US Government. But, as another thread comments earlier, the ReTHUGs continue to believe in things that have been proven completely, unutterably wrong. Only way we can break this self-delusion is to batter it out of their skulls; maybe send all ReTHUGs to Iraq to cover the withdrawal of our troops.

Many, I'm gettin' garrulous in my old age . . . .

3. Evangicals are prophcidal maniacs!
To these christian evangicals, the Israel issue is all part of "the plan". These wack-jobs think that it is all prophecy, so anything to do with Israel makes them all happy and think that the end of the world is near or at hand and the Rapture is coming....Which its not.

It didnt come the first 10 times they claimed it was and its not going to happen now. Unfortunate for those who wich they all would magicaly disappear, its just going to EVER happen.

So, anytime Israel is kicking up dust, the christians drop to their knees and start begging. The only time so-called "Biblical Prophecy" will come to pass is when they can manipulate our Governemt Bodies to force them to happen...
