Christofascist - A Definition
Edited on Mon Sep-18-06 11:08 AM by Freedom_from_Chains
1. Christofascist

Christian religious extremist. Often a person who believes in forcing a right-wing Christian agenda on the rest of the world. Also known as a 'fundamentalist' or more recently 'evangelical'.

Since many Christofascists bristle at the term 'fundamentalist' there has been a movement to get the media to refer to them as 'evangelicals.' However the term 'evangelical' is a misleading one as many Christian sects are evangelical in nature and not all evangelical Christians have such extremem views or political agendas. Christofascist is a more descriptive term for these right-wing extremists.

James Dobson's Focus on the Family is a Christofascist hate group bent on banning abortion and opressing homosexuals.

1. I Resent The Use Of 'Christian' Anywhere In The Description
These peoples' beliefs have NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Christianity. A more correct description of their religous (and political) beliefs would be 'Pharisee.'

2. I'm afraid it has everything to do with our current political
situation. A concept that the creator of the Christian authoritarian state, Constantine, had an amazing grasp of.

3. Well, I Simply Refer To Them As 'The Pharisees'
Has the twin benefit of being very correct (as they always seem to quote the Old Testament rather than the New) and actually making people READ their Bible & discover why the snake oil Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson et al isn't Christianity, but a grotesque perversion of it.

4. And you certainly have the right to refer to them any way you wish.
I just think Christofascist is more to the point in the current context in that it alludes to them being religious extremist, which they are, and points to them supporting an authoritarian type of government that commingles the state and corporation to govern the people.

But hey, that's just me.

8. In situations like this
I'm always reminded of that scene in The Jerk where Navin decides to name his dog Lifesaver, and the guy goes, "Don't call him Lifesaver; call him Shithead." This would be the original, unedited version - not the one they show on TNT where the dog's name is Stupid.

So how about calling them shitheads? Or assholes. Fucking idiots works for me as well.

10. Not me
I get ignored, as a rule. In order to get chastised, I have to make some offhand, factual commment that I don't expect to get chastised for. It's kind of like finding love when you stop looking for it.

11. Well, they try to argue that they are Christian, so would not such a title
as 'pseudochristian' convey what they are, while using the word 'Christian' in the name?

Now I think about it, I think I prefer pseudoChristian to Christofascist.

12. Everything seems to be about the freaking fascists these days.
I woud argue that the term 'fascist' is overused.

We can just try serial approximation though - I'll start with pseudoChristian.
