Sad week for boxing it seems.

3. No not official
Still waiting for autopsy. ESPN mentioned it last night, said suicide. You question prompted me to look at wikipedia and this is what they say and it has 2 sources.

Argüello died around 1 a.m. local time on July 1, 2009, after he allegedly shot himself through the heart in Managua, according to a report from Channel 8 national television. Reports now say there could be some foul play involved. The national police have confirmed the death, but are still awaiting the results of the autopsy. <4><5>

I apologize if my initial information turns out to be incorrect.

4. A lot of suspicion, here, Jon.
When Alexis was champ, he was against the Sandanistas. He retired, and joined them. I have a ton of questions.

5. A couple of my friends
said that it was not a suicide.

Gatti was in a number of great fights. Though he was not a great fighter, he was able to win titles in two divisions. That's adds up to an impressive career. Very sad. It sounds like his wife may be the person who killed him.

Unreal.

6. It appears that
the police in Brazil are interviewing Arturo's wife. She is from Brazil.

The couple arrived, with their 1-year old child, in Brazil on Friday. The police arrived and found his body at 6 am on Saturday. He may have been dead for up to 8 hours.

7. His wife
apparently knocked him out while both were drunk, by hitting him on the back of the head with some object. Then she strangled him with her purse strap. Unreal.

He was never a boxer or person that I cared for. He was a very dirty fighter -- though almost all good fighters are. But he ripped Micky Ward off financially, too. Of course, they became close friends, and I figured that if Ward likes him, he must be okay. He was far more intelligent than people assumed boxers to be -- spoke four languages.

It's a damned shame.

8. How long were they married, H2O?
One year-old child. Doesn't sound long to me.

9. Good question.
I do not think for long. She's only 23, I believe. The impression that I get from reading the news reports is that the two were not on a "second honeymoon" -- just the opposite. He was apparently going to leave her. That's two tragic deaths of retired athletes at the hands of unstable young women in recent weeks.

12. I still can't wrap my head around the Mcnair situation, now this?
Wow, two unstable women killing two former athletes within a week of the other. That is some ugly stuff. I don't even know how somebody could shoot somebody while they were sleeping or strangle somebody to death with a purse strap. Tragic. I know bad things happen to people every day but, these guys are supposed to have it all, you know? I guess it's shocking to see in the first place, even more when you realize it could happen to anybody.
