Which team has the best Super Bowl record?
Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 10:59 PM by mix
Clearly, the Steelers 6-1 are at the top. But what about the second and third positions? The San Francisco 49s are a perfect 5-0, while the Dallas Cowboys are 5-3.

I would rank them in the following order:
1) Steelers
2) Cowboys
3) 49s

The Cowboys have the same number of Super Bowl victories as the 49s, while San Francisco has three less Super Bowl appearances than Dallas. Those NFC Championships have to count for something.

3. That's been my point all along. The Cowboys have won the NFC Championship
Eight times. No other team is close.

...they have a better NFC Chamionship Game record than the 9ers.

8. NFC championships are nothing more
than a consolation prize, an award for losers. Mentioning how many the Cowboys have won only serves to highlight how many Super Bowls they've lost.

4. BS
Winning percentage counts for something too..When you get to the big game you got to win.

49ers: 5-0 1000

Steelers: 6-1 .857

Cowboys: 5-3 .625

By that metric, the 49ers are the most successful team in Super Bowl history.

5. well
when the 49s get to Super Bowls 6,7 and 8, let's see if they do win "the big game"...stellar Super Bowl record, but not quite the tradition of excellence that Dallas has in the NFC.

just so they can fall flat on their face like the Cowboys. LOL

My definition of a "tradition of excellence" doesn't include failing in the Super Bowl.

6. But the 9ers are battin' a thousand.
I'm a Rams fan from the 70's, so I've got no love for the Cowboys. But I'm also a Rams fan from the 80's, and so I hate the niners with a hate that is pure. However...

1.000 > 0.625

Eight appearances versus five is a damn good argument, though.

10. Best superbowl record is the 49ers 5-0
But the Cowboys reaching the SB 8 times and winning 5 makes them a more successful franchise.

Edited on Thu Jul-16-09 11:54 PM by mix
I admit as a pure number, 5-0 is the best and it is an amazing feat...but the fact that the Steelers have won more Super Bowls, for me, means they have the best record...and Dallas by reaching more Super Bowls has gone farther...

i'll buy it, but for a penny

What are the three most successful Super Bowl franchises in NFL history?

1)Steelers
2)Cowboys
3)49s

Clearly Super Bowl records alone do not tell the whole story about a franchise's success and failures. Dallas lost three Super Bowls, San Francisco has three less appearances and three less NFC Championships.

After Pittsburgh, Dallas is the most successful Super Bowl franchise.

5-3 trumps 5-0.

16. I don't think so
take 2 teams in the standings, 1 is 5-0 the other 5-3...which team is in 1st place?

The 49ers are the only NFL team with multiple SB wins and no losses.

Dallas has nothing on the Niners but 3 extra losses.

21. If you want to go by something other than SB records
How about this?...The 49ers hold the NFL record with 16 consecutive 10 or more win seasons. They also hold the NFL record with 19 consecutive road wins. Both are extremely impressive marks and neither is likely to be broken anytime soon, if at all.

23. Interesting stats...
Here's one: The Cowpies hold the record with 8 SB appearances. Yes, the 49ers have a great history (despite their recent troubles), but at this point in time, Dallas has been a more successful franchise. If SF wins a SB before Dallas, I may change my tune, but until then, I don't think regular season stats are going to change my mind.

Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 01:06 AM by Iggo
...Dallas will still have more Super Bowl appearances.

Of course, they could both lose multiple Super Bowls between now and the next time either one wins one, so...

Steelers it is! Winner!

(I spel gud)

24. Do you even believe your own
bullshit? How can you compare standings of 5-0 vs. 5-3. They wouldn't have played an uneven number of games at the same time, even allowing for a bye week, it would only be a one-game difference. Those kind of standing don't exist at the same time in the NFL. It can't happen. Comparing teams at different points in the season is meaningless. The 5-0 team can very easily lose the next three weeks and then it would be an equal 5-3 comparison measured at the same point in the season. Are you keeping up? This comparison cannot fairly be made until the 9ers play in 3 more super bowls. Your analogy fails.

32. I am honest about my team unlike you and your more evil twin
Like this gentleman you posted a pic of I say my team stinks when it does stink. That's why I have never started any thread here about how great the Rams and the Oakland A's are when they clearly are not. You could learn something about my humility. But you are clearly learning-impaired. I am honest which is why I sometimes agree with you and say so. But you never can be honest about your teams which is tiring I must say. That's what makes you and uptown homers and buttkissers and me an honest REAL fan.

I like how you post a thread bragging about your humility .. you know, essentially trying to describe what a saint you are ,,, only to pepper it with remarks about me such as, "learning-impaired." how I'm dishonest, which is "tiring I must say," and calling me a "homer" and a "buttkisser," while implying I'm not a REAL fan.

You are too, too much!!!

the SB winning percentage of the Rams. You know, the team that you root for that resides in a red state almost 2000 miles away from where you live.

Super Bowl record

Rams 1-2 .333

Since you don't know what a winning SB record is all about, the Rams have never had one, I'll just ignore your post.. realizing it is nothing more than the rantings of a disillusioned envious individual.

42. Wait till they've played in 8 Super Bowls
before you start comparing records with someone who has played 8. What if they lose 3 straight in their record is 5-3? Somehow I think you would still find a way to rate them superior.
