Sanchez and Wilson reject contract extensions
Edited on Sun Jul-19-09 04:08 PM by Upton
The prospects of Pittsburgh's Freddy Sanchez and Jack Wilson being dealt before the July 31 trading deadline might have increased markedly after the two players rejected multiyear contract extensions.

-----

According to MLB.com, Sanchez and Wilson were both offered two-year contracts.

Several teams, including the Giants with Sanchez, are interested in one or the other of these two. They're never going to win in Pittsburgh, or even be a contender, no doubt that is weighing heavily on the minds of these two fine middle infielders.

1. If that being the case
Those are the kind of guys you don't want on your team.

That says more about them than the franchise they play for.

Crappy team guys (providing there is even any truth to your editorializing).

2. Give me a break
Sanchez is a 3 time All Star and the 2006 NL batting champion, he's hitting .313 right now. I'd like to see the Giants get him, as long as they don't have to give up too much.

You can't blame players for wanting to play with a team that has a chance to win...that's the nature of sports.

3. Of course you would want him
if the conditions you state are accurate.

I wouldn't want a guy on my team who begs out because he thinks the team has no shot at winning. That's freakin ridiculous and not to mention EXTREMELY SELFISH.

Bad team guy.

No wonder you want him so badly.

You really don't know anything about sports, do you? Why the fuck would you want a player like that in your locker room?

6. I actually don't see what the problem is here.
It's not like they're publicly disrespecting the team or refusing to play and demanding a trade, they've simply decided that they're not happy with the Pirates and are ready to move on instead of staying on for 2 more years. Don't you think you'd do the same in that situation?

4. I wonder if the Sox will show an interest in Wilson.
Right now we're getting great play from the non-roster invitee Nick Green, who has been excellent so far. After that there's a drop off. The Sox are in the process of unloading Lugo, and while Green has been a great surprise, Wilson is an established solid player.

Sanchez is great, but with Pedroia the Sox aren't going to be interested.

5. Yea, asking a player if they'd like to re-sign with the Pirates is like asking
someone if they'd like to jump of a cliff.

7. I'd like to get Sanchez
but I don't want the Giants giving up any big time pitching prospects.
