Yanks to host Notre Dame-Army game
Storied rivalry to play out in Nov. 20 contest at new Stadium

NEW YORK -- Two classic collegiate rivals will again intersect their rich traditions at a historic address, as Notre Dame will host Army on Nov. 20, 2010, in the first football game to be held at the new Yankee Stadium.

The game will mark the 50th time that the schools have played each other, with 22 of those previous meetings having taken place at the classic Yankee Stadium. The last of those games was played in 1969.

Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner said on Monday that the club is happy to return college football to their stage in the Bronx and that his father, George Steinbrenner, is also very enthusiastic about the plans for the game.

"When we first floated this idea past him and told him Notre Dame and Army were interested, he was ecstatic and very excited and eager to get a deal done," Steinbrenner said. "He reminded me several times over the last several months just how great and rich this rivalry has been

5. Maybe ND can take on the Coast Guard academy while they are it.
Then they will play all the academies in one year, and no one will be wathcing on NdBC.

8. This game is such a throwback except for one minor thing.....
Back when.... Army v ND in Yank stadium.... included 2 teams that were real, real good at football.

Now? One is awful and couldn't beat many 1-AA programs and one is ranked about #30 or worse in Div. 1-A.

But.... when you can't play ball you try to "wake up the echos" by playing in a stadium named after two other stadiums you used to play in back when you used to be able to play decent ball.

I guess.
