Boy oh boy, the Phillies are really good
They have a lot of thunder in that lineup and caused me to do something I rarely do; turn the Cubs game off. 9-0 in the fourth inning and they show no signs of letting up. If Halladay goes to Philly as rumored, they could be damn near a shoo in for the World Series again.

1. It's amazing that they're under .500 at home.
They're something like 5 or 6 over .500 on the road though, which is outstanding.

I'd rather Halladay came to Boston though.

2. Halladay won't go to Boston
It is doubtful that the Jays will trade him to a divisional rival.

3. Probably not, but the Jays said they would consider any offers, even from within the division.
The Sox are one of the few teams that may have enough to swing a deal the Jays would like. The Sox have all kinds of options, so anything is possible.

4. Toronto wants pitching in return
I don't think Philly has many of those to spare.

I think St Louis has some decent pitching prospects (not 100% on that) to give up in a deal.

6. They do have pitching to give up.
Plus other blue chip prospects in the outfield and catcher. I mentioned this to you before in another thread. We're going to get Halladay.

10. I figured cause they signed Pedro they were throwing in the towel
I had read somewhere else that St Louis was the front runner to get him.

Who do the Phillies have for pitching prospects? I didn't think they had much given their starters stuggles. I had heard that they were not all that deep in their system with pitching.

13. J.A. Happ, Kyle Drabek, Carlos Carrasco
Happ is 7-0 in the majors right now as a rookie, Drabek is a "can't miss" lefthander, tops in the system deemed "untouchable" by Amero but he is certainly touchable for Halladay. Carrasco is another top of the line prospect ranked 28th in all of baseball. And Then they have a few others in AA ball who are highly regarded. Two of the three plus five tool outfielder Michael Taylor should get it done.

They signed Pedro to be the fifth starter. A stop gap in case they have to lose Happ.

14. I wouldn't make a move then
Sounds like with Happ and Drabek the Phillies can contend with those two for many years down the line. Especially Drabeck being a lefty.

I wouldn't give up that much of the farm. If Drabeck is rated that high he may wind up better than Halladay. Halladay I think is 32 with two years left on his contract.

The Phillies might have enough to get far this season without him.

Probably depends on how certain they are on Drabek.

16. I think it's more about winning now.
Grab the ring(s) while you have the chance and the core is in their prime.

17. I agree with that
but I think it comes down to how the Phillies feel about those pitching prospects. If they are as good as billed they might be good enough to get you two or three down the line rather than one or two with Halladay.

The Mets are in a bit of a different situation so maybe that effects my view on it. I see Halladay as a guy who's 33 and a Free Agent after next season. Not a guy worth giving up the farm for.

20. Carrasco is the name I haven't been hearing alot of mention
mostly it's been Happ and Drabek. If I were a Philly fan, Happ is more than expendible. He's in my opinion a back end of the rotation starter. He doesn't have tremendous stuff and is not overpowering. So, if Toronto wants, they can have Happ. Tough call on either Drabek or Carrasco. But one or the other would be ok.

I like Michael Taylor but the Phils can afford to get someone with major league experience via free agency. Given the Phils lineup and contract status of most of their stars, Taylor won't be any type of savior.

Get the deal done. Get the chance to win 2 more rings now before the baseball economy of staggering contracts cost you most of your stars. The organizations pockets are deep enough. They can afford to go out and shop the free agency market when they need to.

5. Not anymore. They just evened up.
And they are 14 games over on the road, not a mere 5 or 6.

The Phils are blazing hot right now.

9. Actually it's more like 14 over .500 on the road.
But who's counting? ;-)

7. Well yeah, they're the Champs.
Speed, power and defense. Plus the starting pitching is coming around as well. This is a really good team.

11. I was thinking that the Cubs could be the ones to put the streak to an
end today but we're really rollin' right now. Truth be told, I don't know if I even want Halladay at this point mainly because it would mean giving up Happ. The kid's having a spectacular season and could have a great future with the Phillies.

19. I do not want to give up Happ
I'd give up Drabek first, but I don't want to do that either. But Halliday gets us two guaranteed wins in each postgame series we play. I'm glad I'm not Ruben Amaro.

15. I think Utley intentionally got tagged out
to distract from throwing the ball to home, which led to Victorino scoring. And I thought that was a cute move from Werth at the end of the game to fake the guy out at first, and then throwing him out. They're a thing of beauty in the outfield.
