2. Why you gotta call me out?
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 08:25 PM by JonLP24
What I was specifically dealing with earlier with Manny. I said he got caught and served his punishment. What is it that you want out of this? Though I'm not going to hold my PC against the window just to load a video about a topic I know pretty well.

I took a course, Drugs, Society, and Human Behavior.

That is the book above and it goes in the topic. I shit you not and I have not independently verified but the textbook actually says outside of teenage years anabolic steroids has little effectiveness in increasing athletic performance and goes on to say (paraphrasing) 'Don't tell that to the average fan or sports writer'

I'm not bullshitting it's really in the book but let me point out I have not independently verified this.

(edit changed book image)

4. Wait, what?
This textbook states that anabolics aren't effective in regards to athletic performance outside of teenage years? Really? The book says that?

Oh Lord. I'm going to need a few hours to even figure out where to begin with that one.

5. Hey I didn't write the book
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 08:40 PM by JonLP24
It says something along those lines but the "don't tell that to the average sports fan or writer that" is especially memorable. It does have an entire chapter devoted to Cannabis and how it become illegal which was pretty accurate based on my own research. As far as anabolic steroids I haven't looked into it too much.

9. I may be confusing athletic peformance with body size
Edited on Thu Jul-23-09 08:55 PM by JonLP24
It may have said outside of teenage years it has little to do with increasing muscle size. However the don't tell that to the sports fan line is something I can't forget. That part is probably full of shit but they are right about MLB no drug testing, blah, blah, BALCO, blah, blah, Congress gets in involved, blah, blah, etc.

On edit: It's been a 1.5 years since I finished the course so the details are a little sketchy.

10. Either way, it's wrong.
Any text that says properly applied anabolics don't BOTH increase muscle mass (as genetically allowed) AND increase athletic performance (again, same) is written by an idiot without any clue as to anabolics.

OR, and this is possible, the text is 50 years old. No, wait...70 years old.

7. Well, either it's written by a freeper,
or a Barroid apologist.

Unless you consider 37 to be teenaged.

11. To be honset
Steroids in sports is probably one subject I could care less about. I think the outrage at this point is a little forced and this is all old news.

Although I have to wonder if it had any effect on the Mets losing the 2000 WS. Given that Roger Clemens was an abuser. Oh well, it's old news.

12. Well there you go
You don't care in the first sentence and then express concern in the next.

What you're concerned about is the unfair advantage it gives a player over players who do not cheat.

And that's the crux of steroid use....

14. I'm not really concerned
From what I've heard about 1/3 of the league was abusing. I'm certain those names will leak out over time.

Overall, I just don't care about it. I do wonder how much it impacted the game during it's height but I'm not really interested in a witch hunt. Roids may be allow you hit the ball harder or throw further and harder. What is doesn't replace is having a mind for the game.

Baseball is first and formost a thinking mans game.

Guys like Clemens may have the shame attatched to them associated with cheating. The also have the incidents of roid rage on the field (Clemens vs Piazza for example) as an even bigger embarassment.
