DENVER (AP) -- The Colorado Rockies acquired right-hander Jose Contreras from the Chicago White Sox on Monday night for cash and minor leaguer Brandon Hynick.
The Rockies, tied for the NL wild-card lead with San Francisco, made the trade before the midnight EDT deadline for postseason eligibility.
The 37-year-old Contreras is 5-13 with a 5.42 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 21 starts this season. He's pitched in seven major league seasons with the Yankees and White Sox and is 70-63 with a 4.66 ERA.
