Hot Corner: Former UT coach Phillip Fulmer could be coach in waiting
What do you guys think? I know that Fulmer still wants to coach. He didn't want to leave UT. You could tell that at his "resignation" presser. I just don't think that he'd come back to the SEC.

Hot Corner: Former UT coach Phillip Fulmer could be coach in waiting

Posted by Doug Segrest -- The Birmingham News August 31, 2009 5:45 AM

"Former Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer told reporter Tony Barnhart last week that he "absolutely" wants to get back into coaching. He indeed may be on someone's list four months from now.

Maybe at Louisville.

Maybe at South Carolina, if Steve Spurrier says he's had enough after the 2009 season.

I think it's very likely that Fulmer will coach again, but I don't think it will be at a BCS school."

1. I grew up a USC fan

and enjoyed their win last night (however ugly it was) but my god, how about some new blood rather than formerly very good coaches past their prime (said under the assumption there is a scintilla of truth to the coach in waiting comment above)

(on edit):

Fulmer is no doubt a good coach, but I think he'd struggle to go outside the southeast. UT recruited nationally while he was in K-town, but the bulk of his players and relationships with highschools are in the SE - maybe that opens up an ACC gig for him?

2. I think you're right. An ACC team would welcome him.
I think that after last night, NC State just might welcome him with open arms. ;)

I don't like the recycling of coaches who were let go for non-performance. It makes no sense unless your team is happy with middle of the pack, go to an okay bowl game every year kind of coach. If that's so, then Fulmer is the go-to guy!

3. Little Woman, in the future would you please refer to the Vols as "ut".
"UT" is reserved in perpetuity by the Longhorns.

7. He could stay in retirement....
