Vol's hammer W. Ky 63-7 to give Kiffen his first victory.
In appreciation of a former member of this forum..

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin's tenure on Rocky Top is off to a smooth start.

Jonathan Crompton threw five touchdown passes Saturday, leading the Volunteers to a 63-7 rout of Football Bowl Subdivision newcomers Western Kentucky and their largest margin of victory in nine years.

''This is the way that we expect to play,'' Kiffin said. ''We have high expectations here. I just talked to them about understanding that was one game and it's over. We've got to find a way to play better next week.''

In its first two drives, Tennessee looked as if it hadn't learned much under Kiffin, the youngest active coach in the division. Crompton threw a pass over the middle that was easily tipped by Thomas Majors and intercepted by Jamal Forrest , and Montario Hardesty fumbled after a hard hit.

The Vols settled down after the first quarter, and Hardesty carried for 18 and 22 yards to help set up a 2-yard touchdown run by freshman Bryce Brown early in the second quarter.

Bobby Rainey fumbled on the Hilltoppers' next play, and LaMarcus Thompson recovered for Tennessee. Crompton connected with Luke Stocker on his first of two TD catches to make it 14-0 only 7 seconds later.

Of course when your team mascot is this...

4. Rolling up the score on W. KY...a very SEC thing to do. Classless.

6. Not all of the SEC does that
Mainly it's been Florida in the past. Spurrier was known for it.

Kiffen wanted to make a point - that the Vols are "back" and ready to kick ass.

Of course, Florida will mow them down like crabgrass so this little display of - whatever it was - was totally pointless.

If a team can't win its division, then that team won't play for the SEC Championship. If a team can't win the SEC, then that team won't get a shot to play for the National Championship. And since Kiffen has run his mouth about Meyer cheating and UT beating Florida (he mentioned it as a "tradition"), he has given UF red meat to pound UT into the sand.

14. It's possible

That Tennessee was running off tackle the entire half and still found their way in the endzone. Or the defense gave the offense great field position due to strong defensive performance so they had no choice but to score. Just a couple years ago Western Kentucky was in another division of college football and was admitted to the Sun Belt conference this year.

I didn't see the game but it's very plausable.

Edited to add, they may have benched their starters at halftime and still found their way in the endzone.

5. Well, Tennessee fans all over TN will be saying that TN is back
:eyes:

I know some UT fans and they are praying that Kiffen leads them back to the promised land. This lopsided victory against Western Kentucky isn't exactly a test of the offense or defense, either. Yet those fans will be screaming, "We're number 1! We're National Championship contenders, baby!!"

I can't stand the Vols and I can't stand that smug coach of theirs either.

7. Well said, Jo
I think 99% of the Forum feels that way. Whether you like the Vols or not, Kiffin is a TOTAL asshole. The (W)HOLE PACKAGE.

8. I agree totally
I lived in TN for several years. I grew up in Alabama.

Alabama fans are rabid. TN fans are obnoxious. They beat little teams and get all in your face about how great they are.
