Patriots deal Richard Seymour to Raiders
Per ESPN. We got their 2011 1st-rounder in exchange.

I was hoping the initial rumor--Kirk Morrison and a 2nd rounder--was true, but what we got isn't bad, considering we actually have some depth on the DL.

4. This comes out of nowhere.
I wonder if there's anything (besides getting another 1st round pick) that brought this on.

5. Re-signing Big Vince.
Seymour had one year left to go on his contract, and there was no way in hell we'd be able to afford him after that.

7. God, the Raiders are a train wreck.
Very good chance the Pats just acquired a top 3 pick.

Al Davis might be the worst owner in professional sports.

8. Given Al's recent draft performance, I'm not sure the pick had any value for them anyway. n/t

10. UPDATE: Seymour has not yet reported to the Raiders...
and no one knows why.

S.F. Chronicle, 9-8-9:

Defensive lineman Richard Seymour, a five-time Pro Bowler, refused to report for duty Monday at team headquarters in Alameda, one day after the Patriots traded him to the Raiders for a 2011 first-round draft pick. For the record, the Raiders are getting concerned.

"We have attempted to make a deal," Raiders coach Tom Cable said of what he called the "Richard Seymour issue" after practice Monday. "There are some issues still between him and the Patriots that are being worked out. "Hoping that that will get resolved as quickly as possible."

So what's the holdup? Don't ask the Patriots. They've got nothing to add. "We are unaware of any issues," Patriots spokesman Stacy James said.

The only known issue is Seymour has yet to leave the Boston area to pass his Oakland physical and become a Raider.
