1. Holy Fucking Shit
This ranks as one of the classic games of this rivalry---of all time.

Miami finally has a quarterback.

3. What is interesting about that miss is it wasn't even blocked
I can understand a wide right or a wide left but it didn't even have the height to get over the crossbar.

4. Kicker had nothing to do with it
though a PAT was missed, FSU made up for it when they made a 2 point conversion later on.

7. Didn't FSU go for a 2 point conversion which negated that missed PAT?

12. Awesome win but it reminded me of a thread I posted last year
I think it was the Tennessee/UCLA game: "Why do squib kickoffs even exist?"

There's nothing more masochistic in sports. Coaches have no clue regarding probability if they squib kick or pooch kick. It doesn't matter if 5 consecutive deep kicks are returned into your territory. That's still not the favorite the next time. Miami tried to throw away the game by having Bosher kick it short. Even if his best scenario is landing at the 10 yard line, that's what you go with.

This is what coaches fail to realize when they squib kick: In surrendering to fear you assume the opponent will get all the little things right. Catching the ball cleanly is not a guarantee, nor is flawless blocking and avoiding something like a holding call or block in the back. Any of those things can stick a team deep in its own end, even if your kicker doesn't have a great leg. It's mind boggling idiocy to squib kick. Todd Blackledge understood that while Shannon did not. And FSU thankfully contributed one dunce intentionally short kickoff to set up Miami's final TD.

Otherwise, Miami finally has a QB, and an offensive coordinator. Biggest smile I've seen on Shannon's face since he too over. :)

15. This is what I don't get....
Shannon has the ability to look the whole country over for a kicker that could put it in the end zone almost every time. For the last several seasons this has been a real Achilles heal for the Canes.

Oh how I long for a guy like Carlos Huerta---the best kicker in UM history. The guy had an uncanny knack for putting the ball in each corner around the 2 yard line and had incredible hang time. That was his strategy and it worked brilliantly.

Plus I think at one time he had the consecutive extra point record.

They need to fix it quick.

13. ESPN viewers flocked to Miami Hurricanes-FSU matchup
<snip>

"It wasn't only football fans in the state of Florida enthralled with Monday's University of Miami at Florida State game.

The entire country was mesmerized.

The UM-FSU game on Labor Day night was the second-most viewed regular-season college football game in ESPN's 30-year history, ESPN spokesman Mike Humes confirmed Thursday.

Even more impressive: The Hurricanes have been involved in four of the top five most-viewed college football games on ESPN -- three based on regular-season viewership and one on regular-season and postseason play.

Monday's game -- a 38-34 UM victory in Tallahassee -- averaged 5,820,000 households and 8,406,000 viewers, based on a 5.9 rating.

"A close matchup, two traditional programs, a great rivalry and great rating,'' Humes said. ``Being in that Monday night football window is a big help."

The most-viewed college football game on ESPN, regular season and postseason, was the 2006 UM-FSU game in the Orange Bowl. That game averaged 6,330,000 households and 9,120,000 viewers, based on a 6.9 rating. FSU won that game 13-10."

16. Miami - FSU always a great matchup.
Too bad the other major state program is busy playing the likes of Charleston Southern & Troy to schedule the Canes.

"They're going to chisel on my tombstone," Bowden said in the fall of 1991, " 'He played Miami.'

17. Florida plays the #1 most difficult schedule in the country.....
almost every year. Florida's the only school in the US to ever play the #1 most difficult schedule and win a National championship while doing so....and they've done it.....TWICE (96 & 06). Last year they only played the #2 most difficult schedule in the country...as judged by The NCAA...while winning the national championship.

The school that plays the #1 most difficult schedule in the country..... does not feel like it has to.....UPGRADE.... it's schedule difficulty.

Only a friggin' idiot calls out the school that plays the #1 most difficult schedule in the country and wishes they would INCREASE their schedule difficultly rather than the other 119 colleges in D-1 football that play lesser opponents.

Only and idiot.....

18. Amen!
Florida plays Georgia, LSU, Florida State, and probably Alabama in the SEC title game. Tennessee could end up being a top 25 too. Nothing to sneeze at even in a "down" year for strength of schedule. I can only assume people are sick of Florida winning so much.

21. Too bad they quit the yearly Miami series back in the eighites...
Something about Miami kicking their asses year in and year out that made the chicken Gators drop Miami from the yearly game.

Oh sure---they finally agreed to play this past decade-----but---- the poor Gators haven't fared to well with 5 losses to one win against the Canes.
