Poll question: VERY Premature Poll: Who will the 2009 World Series?
I had room for the current division leaders and the two current wild cards, plus two long shots. Everyone else has either been eliminated or would be a statistical improbability to win.

1. Tempted just to vote for the Spankmes to curse them...
...not sure who will win, don't think it will be the Stinkees...hard to tell at this point because a lot of teams are hitting tough patches and could right themselves in a week. A week ago I would have said St Louis, but 5 out of 6 losses makes you wonder.

2. If I was betting, which I'm not, I'd say the Yankees.
But don't discount the Phillies or the Red Sox.

3. This poll doesn't make sense
the Texas Rangers are 6.5 games out in the Wild Card and 6 out in the division, the Twins are 13 games out in the Wild Card and 4.5 out in the division and you have included both of them. Yet the Giants are but 3.5 games out in the Wild Card and they have been branded a "statistical improbability"

If the Giants are a "statistical improbability"...what does that make the Twins and Rangers?

6. I was wondering how the Twins got into the poll. Are they even
mathematically alive? I think the Cubs and Marlins have a better shot than the Rangers.

Bizarre, isn't it!

8. With 7 games against Detroit, and only 4.5 games back, yeah,
they are very much still in it. More so than the Rangers...actually it appears that only the central is to be decided...even America's Team of old when they had their annual September slide can't not be the wild card with the way their competition has been playing.

7. I gotta agree with you there
The Giants or Marlins have a much better shot at the playoffs than the Rangers and Twins

9. I'm only going by the statistics given at baseballprospectus.com...
http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/ps_odds.php

Or rather, what baseballprospectus.com said when I posted the poll last night. According to them, after running the rest of the season a million times, the Twins have a 12% chance of winning the AL Central. So they definitely deserve to be up there.

Last night, the next most likely team was the Rangers. Now, they're at 5.3%--less likely than the 6% Braves, but still a tiny bit more probable than the 5.0% Giants.

If I had to do it again, I'd sub in the Braves for the Rangers, but the Giants are still pretty damn improbable at this point. Sorry...

11. Yeah sure...your anti Giants bias is apparent
according to coolstandings, the Giants have a 10.3% chance of making the playoffs, compared with the Rangers 6.1% and the Braves 5.6%.

26. The Giants odds have now risen to 10.4%
compared to the Braves 7.4% and the Rangers 4.9%....further proving my point that the failure to include the Giants in the poll was fueled by anti Giants bias.

5. Whoever takes the AL East. Sox or Yankees.
And yeah, it's like a stab in the lung to have to include the Yankees, but they have been playing just phenomenal ball the last couple months. Sure, they've had a speedbump or two, but overall very convincing baseball. My Red Sox aren't out of it, and they've played spoiler before.

13. The Yanks have been playing beyond awesome.
They have to be favorites to win it all. But...but...the Sox are not a team I'd want to draw in the playoffs.

After that?

for a while. I should be rootin for the Angels, but I'm an M's fan, and I detest the Angels. :D

23. I go with the Rockies
I know all of you are laughing at me but I'll be laughing in November when Tulo, Fowler, Hawpe, Helton, etc is invited to the White House to celebrate with Obama. :bounce:

Serious question. For a fair poll why isn't the Giants included? They're still within range to make it to the WC as much as those teams.

24. I hate to say it. But the Yankees...blah.
Which means I won't be watching much post season baseball likely. I can't stand watching the Yanks.
I would LOVE to see the Phillies win again. I really like their players.:)
