3. Mayweather was 2 pounds over at the weigh in - cost him 600K!
That's three hundred grand per pound!
Ouch...

I don't have a horse in this race, I hope the fight is clean and no one gets hurt.

11. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's crap.
You don't like it, you could always just ignore it you know.

DavidDvorkin, if you think its crap, that's cool. But not everyone does, and, may I add that its a sport enjoyed by enough people to be included in the olympics.

Now back to watching the opening fights.

16. I have been a boxing fan for years
I'm watching MMA live tonight. Will catch a later broadcast of Mayweather Marquez so I am going to avoid spoilers from here on in.

7. Marquez is a thing of beauty in the ring
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 06:11 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
I LOVE to watch this guy fight. He's smart, very accurate, a great counter puncher, and finds ways to exploit the weaknesses of his opponent. He's also got a great chin.

But he's going against someone who is probably the greatest fighter of this era, in my opinion. Mayweather is also a very accurate puncher and a superb defensive fighter, with tremendous speed and ring smarts.

I just see this as a complete mismatch. Marquez has only fought twice as a lightweight, and now he's stepping up to fight a guy who weighed in at 146 (two pounds over the contract weight) and who is nearly at the welterweight limit of 147. He's therefore going from a super featherweight just three fights ago to fighting a welterweight. That's a gigantic jump. Marquez himself weighed in at 142. I know that Pacquiao was able to make dramatic weight jumps in his fights to my utter astonishment. I don't expect Marquez, who is getting up in years to do the same.

Unless Mayweather is significantly slowed and rusted from his nearly two years away from the ring, or if his notoriously brittle hands have deteriorated further, I think Marquez will have a great uphill battle. But I congratulate and honor Marquez for just getting into the ring with a man who has fought in recent years against much bigger fighters than him.

20. Mayweather is a great fighter
I don't think anybody doubts that. He was in a different league than Juan Manuel tonight. His big problem is he's often his own worst enemy. I can't wait for Mayweather vs Pacquiao.
