Giants victory assures them of first winning season since 2004

The Giants 5-2 win over the D-Backs last night gave them a record of 82-70...and guaranteeing them their first winning season in 5 years. This is no small achievement, particularly in light of the fact that they were 71-91 in 2007 and 72-90 last year.

2. Add some bats next year and who knows, 100 wins may not be impossible.

They certainly have some great pitching to build around. The lack of offense has really been their only true weakness.

Oh, and the Sharks looked far better last night against the Canucks than last week's game. Much tighter, more physical, and they battled well. They lost in the shootout but the final score is no big deal. They looked much better all around with the big guys in there, and unlike last week made a good effort.

Having said that, look out for Vancouver. I know records in preseason don't mean anything, but they're 6-0 so far and that's impressive, preseason or not. I was leaning towards Chicago taking the West, but after watching 4 of the 6 Canucks game I'm starting to lean towards them. Luongo has to improve in the big game though.
