Ah, those lovely, classy Redskins fans
Apparently they exited Ford Field with such charming parting comments as "F**k Detroit!" "F**k the auto industry!" "At least we have jobs to go to in the morning!"

Kind of on a par with those wonderful Penguins fans who chanted "No jobs, no cars, no houses, no cup!" at Joe Louis Arena when the Peguins won in Detroit.

What is the point of that? I don't get it. Detroit is a beleaguered, battered city that somehow manages to produce winning teams (in almost every sport) and loyal fans anyway. Why do that? What do you gain from it?

The Lions won't win many more games but, hey, they broke the streak and their fans are happy for them. Why act like that, Redskins fans? Why? What does that do for you or your team?

What has happened to sportsmanship?

1. that is surprising
I've gone to lots of Giants-Skins games in DC with a Giants jersey on and people were usually real nice. That really is completely classless.

5. FedEx field is the worst
This is a story from Real Sports where they examine the drinking at NFL games and the Redskins fans were the worst.

7. Yeah. All Redskins fans are complete jerks because of a few drunk idiots
Nice broad brush there. I can't stand the that teams fans are all assholes because of a few jerks meme.

8. I am referring to a bunch who were at the game
And who were decidedly rude, jerky, and nasty because their team lost. Not broad-brushing anyone.

9. your OP sure sounds like all the fans are like that.
Maybe if you phrased it like "Man there were a few douche fans at the Lions game yesterday" it wouldn't have come off like that.
IMO anyway.

10. I wasn't at the game, I only know reports of what was said
Very similar to what was chanted at the Stanley Cups finals so it appears to me that Detroit is fair game for opposing fans no matter what the outcome. My question, though, remains the same: Why? Why if you are upset with your own team do they need to be so completely classless and insulting to the fans of the other team? Why?

11. Apparently they have the "cboy4" syndrome. Bash the city and not the team.

12. Ah, that explains it
Plus I keep forgetting that beleaugered, poor cities like Detroit aren't supposed to have winning sports teams. Or sports teams that break 19 game losing streaks.

15. I wouldn't listen to "reports" rumors turn into news far too
frequently.

16. This was from a guy who was at the game who called in to the postgame show
I'm pretty sure he was telling the truth. Not the first time something like that has happened in Detroit.

17. I remember 20 years ago when UCONN won it's quaterfinal game at
the last second...all the news reported that people attending a concert cheered when the shot went in because instead of actually listening to the concert, a lot of people were listening to the game on the radio with ear plugs...never happened...I was there...but an urban legend was born.

That said, there could be some stupid Deadskanks fans...but the guy could be exaggerating the extent of the comments.

18. I don't think anyone on this board would do that, and I don't think most of the fans would
But this is the third time I've heard it in the last few months - first the (SOME, I should say) Blackhawks' fans, then the Penguins, now the Skins' fans, all of them taunting Detroit. I know that the people here have ultimate shared values that would preclude that kind of behavior. I had not heard about the Katrina stuff; equally disgusting.

My comment to people here would be, if you go out to other forums or boards for your teams, just politely nip it in the bud. That's all you can do. Fox News brand of humor, IMO.

Who was the person here (I haven't seen it in ages) who thought it was so hilarious to refer to Detroit as DetRIOT?

20. I think that might have been it.
I try to tune that stuff out to some degeree - I see it happening, I just try to ignore who says it so I don't judge neutral things the same person might say later.
