Trojan senior running back Stafon Johnson was injured today during a weightlifting session when a bar he was lifting fell on his throat. Johnson was attended to immediately and was taken to a local hospital where he underwent three surgeries.

Johnson was lifting 275 pounds, he was being spotted by a member of the USC strength and conditioning staff, during a bench press session when the incident occurred. According to sources, he stood up after the bar landed on this throat and blood was coming from his mouth. He was surrounded by USC medical staff right away and taken out of Heritage Hall to a waiting ambulance.
Trojan head coach Pete Carroll said following Monday practice that he saw Johnson on the way to the ambulance but that Johnson was unable to speak at that time. He was transported to California Hospital and underwent surgery.
9:30pm update - Johnson is currently undergoing surgery to reconstruct his vocal chords.
10:00pm - Stafon is now out of surgery
11:00pm - Stafon is out of surgery and doctors are confident in his potential recovery. It's going to take some time before the healing process is complete but the prognosis is good.
Stafon had surgery for three things:
* Crushed vocal chord
* adam's apple
* torn muscles
