Not only am I glad that the Lions are playing on Thanksgiving--I'm also rooting for them. |
|
I'd say Detroit is one of the most battered cities in our country right now, and anything that will help lift the spirits of the towns inhabitants is OK by me.
And for the Douchebags who think differently... Fuck off.

4. Thanks. As a long-suffering Lions fan, we need all the help |
|
we can get.
I cringe when I see people say the Thanksgiving game should be taken away from them. Other teams had the chance and none wanted it.
The sad truth is that the ownership is incompetent - but that doesn't mean they don't try. I could see if they didn't spend any money on the team or facilities, but you have to admit, at least Mr. Ford tries. He's not afraid to throw the money around - he just has zero football sense.
I mean, Rod Marinelli? This guy will go down as the worst coach in history.
Plus, Matt Millen - need anything else be said?
If they can keep Stafford alive they actually have a chance to get better. It's almost comical to say that they need another wide reciever, but they do. Defence is starting to show promise. Defensive backs are terrible, but I think we're a few drafts away from being playoff material...

5. Dude---My Phins had Dave Wannstedt (Head Coach) and Rick Spielman (GM) |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-25-09 08:58 AM by trumad
Those two set the Phin franchise back several years and it took paying millions to Bill Parcells to finally set the ship right.
I feel for you guys not only for the football team but for the plight of your city. It's an American tragedy-----what we allowed to happen in Detroit.

Born in the Motor City and lived there long enough to see the Tigers win in '68 before he was transferred east with GM. Hate to say it. Glad he isn't alive to see what happened to his beloved company. I remember him taking us on a 'Sunday Drive' through the riot torn streets in '67, I believe. What a memory. It is a crime to see this happen in the good ol' US of A. But, take a look at New Orleans. Detroit's not alone. Different ways of getting there but it SHOULD NOT happen here. Simple as that.

It is the goal for any college team to make a bowl game. However, an invite to the Motor City Bowl? Hey, I'd like to go but I got a dentist appointment.

18. The Little Ceaesars Pizza Bowl is one of the better non-BCS Bowl Games |
|
(Formerly called the Motor City Bowl)
It usually features the Mac Champion vs Sun Belt Champion(or Big 10 team)
This year it is listed the feature the MAC Champion vs Big 10 #7(Minnesota looks like)
However I'm one of the few fans who enjoy all the Bowl games due to the matchups between other conferences especially non-BCS conferences.

the NFL and the Thanksgiving day game is not some welfare program. If Detroit can't hold up their end of the bargain and at least be competitive, it's time for the NFL to move on..

The last couple of years notwithstanding.
The Thanksgiving Day game was always their Super Bowl. Some of the greates games were in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. I love the tradition and as a former Detroit Suburb girl, I really hope it remains.

In fact, they've only won once on Thanksgiving since 2000...last year they entered at 0-11 and were down by some 30 points at half time on their way to a 47-10 loss. I didn't bother to watch the second half and you can be sure millions of others followed the same pattern.
It's time for a change..

Even the Dolphins, except the embarrassment of nothing but empty orange seats in the stands....any Florida team would make T-giving more interesting for the crowd at our house. The Lions stink and play boring as hell football.
I feel sorry for the people of Michigan and Detroit, but they can work/vote to make their lives better. (Something besides standing in line to buy Palins book would be a start.)
The Lions fans are a different situation altogether, seperate from the plight of michigan. They are victims of an idiot owner, poor management and coaching. They are victims of a fate they cannot work to change. I cant feel sorry for fools who support stupidity

They average 66000 per game. Greenbay averages 70,000---4 grand more than the Phins.
Why is that? Because what the fuck else are you going to do in the frozen tundra? Ice Fish?
As far your comment about Detroit citizens working to make their lives better.... well--- I have no words for that Douchebag comment.

17. And winning an NFL football game makes their lives better how? |
|
are you for real? We should cheer for their team just to make them feel better for a day? That'll give them jobs and put food on the table?
Yes Green Bay is a crappy place to live, voted 3rd least desirable location by current NFL players in a recent SI poll. Yet the team, which has been around just a little bit longer than the Lions, has won numerous championships. The average attnedence for Lambeau is: 'Sold Out', and every seat full from whistle to whistle, for the last 30 years, with a waiting list for season tickets in the 10,000's.
Detroit can do better than your pity.

"I feel sorry for the people of Michigan and Detroit, but they can work/vote to make their lives better".
Do you even realize what a douche statement that is?
They can work? Where?
We've taken their jobs, we've shut down their automobile plants, we've made the City a fucking ghost town---and now douchebags like you and Upton are chirping that we should take away a 70 year old tradition.
Yeah---you fall into the category of Douchebag.
