1. Crock of Shit this year |
|
The fact that Jason Campbell was not even INVITED to the ceremony says all you need to know about the award this year - beauty pageant only.
Sorry, just a little vent from a frustrated Auburn grad.

wins it for being the quarterback on the best team in the nation.
Peterson or Bush deserve it more.

3. Arrington, Campbell, Rodgers, and Benson are all worthy too |
|
From those choices I'd go with Bush. Without him, USC would be a good team but would likely have 1-2 losses.

6. I don't want him, but I think he will win |

Of course I'd prefer an OU person, but since Leinart is in the number one major media market, I think he has an advantage.

10. It's not the media market |

It's that Leinart has put up more impressive numbers than a guy 4 years older than him (Jason) -- in Leinart's 2nd year no less -- with the disadvantage of having to deal with rebuilding Matt's own team after his first season as a starter when the No. 1 player in college ball, Mike Williams from USC, tried to leave for the NFL.

11. I'm kinda glad he did win ... |

Now I don't have to deal with all the superstitious "when a Heisman trophy winner's team plays the Heisman runner-up's team in a bowl game, the runner-up's team wins" stuff directed at OU for the next few weeks.
More seriously, I actually think Leinart deserved it because the basis for the award is the "most valuable player." Leinart probably is the most valuable individual player in the nation. His games show that. OU's games this year showed pretty clearly that both Peterson and White were valuable individually, but it's the tandem, along with some receivers who can catch White's bullet passes threaded through a needle, that makes the team as a whole as good as it is. And on that note, Peterson was the key, I think. Without the run game he provided, OU probably would have lost at least one game.
Now, on to the Orange Bowl, where I can rely on the superstition favoring my own side. :-)
