Anyone here up for a world cup pickem?
I usually do a group stage match-prediction challenge, and just finished this year's spreadsheet workbook. If anyone is interested, I'll set it up before next summer.

1. Sure
Even though I know very little about International Soccer it should be interesting to see how I turn out.

3. Will do!
I hope we can get more than 3 people though. When we get closer to the cup I'll put up a thread with all of the info.

7. Done!
Stay-tuned for info. I'll come back around May with all the details.

I'm doing a couple of separate tournaments this year, so I will have to use the next few months to study up on my Latin American and Eastern European teams.

My first read of how a few of the groups break down:
Group H is impossible to pick.
Group C could have some intriguing match ups
and Group A should be a lot of fun.

6. I'll go with Gelfand

He's in great shape to wins the World Cup in Khanty Mansiysk. He beat Karjakin today with Black, so he just has to avoid loss tomorrow (Monday) when he plays White against Karjakin.

It also does my heart good because he's the oldest among the leading players who started in Khanty Mansiysk at 41.

Seriously, if we're talking about football, then you can't go wrong picking Brazil, athough I see the oddsmakers like Spain just a wee bit better.

9. I might be able to do it...
I'll be in Latin America for most of the Cup, with limited access to the intertubes.

11. It only requires breif access to the net
I haven't worked out how I'm going to do it yet, but the general idea is that you will fill out a spreadsheet and somehow I'll collect and collate all of them into a workbook where all I have to do is fill in the actual scores and the contest will score itself. Before the cup I'll distribute a copy of the workbook to anyone who wants it. All told, to be an entrant should only take 3 minutes of internet time.

10. I'd do a pool on how fast grass will grow
and by the way, I'll go for fescue to win it all. Seriously, I love the world cup. Count me in.

15. Fine point
I failed to distinguish whether it was a sprint or a marathon. In a marathon, I think you're bermuda might just win.
