Don't know much about him, seems to be an excellent innings eater.

Actually not happy to see him gone. He was good for them.

2. Are you a Rockies fan?
With that thin air it must be hard for them to keep pitchers around.

3. Yes -- Rockies fan
I imagine keeping pitchers around was the case in this deal but it looks like he wanted a multi-year deal.

Also as expected, right-hander Jason Marquis -- hoping to parlay his first career All-Star appearance into a multiyear deal -- turned down the Rockies' arbitration offer. The Rockies will receive a Draft choice between the first and second rounds in 2010 as compensation, but the team that signs Marquis will not have to relinquish a pick.

4. Every team he has played on has made the playoffs
But that streak will likely end in 2010.

5. He fades in the late season.
I don't even think he pitched at all in the NLDS.

9. That's true
But it still doesn't change the fact gthat every team he has pitched on has made the playoffs. But as I stated, the streal likely ends in 2010.

6. We still need lots of help in the bullpen BUT
I'm liking what I see in the offseason here. I truly think the Nats are going to be competitive this coming season

7. Nats 2010 starters so far:
Marquis
Lannan
Strasburg (probably May or June)
Detwiler
Olsen
Not bad.
And it's between the Cubs and Nats for Matt Capps--decision tonight.

10. The Cubs will find a way to blow it
Hendry is not really a good GM, in my opinion.

14. Marquis is the sort of pitcher they could sign to a $7.5 per year deal
and then send to a contending team desperate for starting pitching in July for high level prospects. Marquis is exactly the type of pitcher that's good enough that contenders would want him, but not so good that the local fans would be mad if he left (provided you got good prospects). I predict Marquis doesn't finish out this contract in Washington, but that doesn't mean it's not a very good signing for the Natinals.
