Childress & Favre
Trouble up north. The QB is not listening.
But all is not well between Brad and Brett, and the primary difference centers on the quarterback's penchant to check out of runs and into passes. According to one team member, Favre has expressed frustration for much of the season about Childress' unwillingness to let him audible more.

A late season meltdown not involving the Cowboys for once.

4. Will Childress be let go, too??
It's never Brett's fault. It's always the other guy.

5. LOL
I can imagine it's been difficult for the talking heads who just KNEW it was never going to work to be sitting holding their tongues for the first 14 games of the season, but now they've got their chance!

Well, maybe not.

Favre: Differences with Childress resolved

Vikings quarterback Brett Favre said he and coach Brad Childress resolved their differences by talking on Monday, a day after Childress attempted to remove Favre during the third quarter of Minnesota's loss at Carolina. The two also had another conversation today and it appears Favre realizes that he needs to get running back Adrian Peterson more involved in this offense.

Favre reportedly wasn't pleased with the freedom he was getting to run the Vikings offense and Childress wasn't happy that Favre was changing plays so frequently. "(The issues) were resolved just by sitting down and talking about it as we should have done and ultimately did do," Favre said Wednesday during a mid-week news conference in which he fielded numerous questions on the topic of his relationship with Childress. "But really the differences ... it's gotten blown way out of proportion."

9. Well of course they're going to say that
What do you think they're going to say? "Yeah, we aren't on the same page, we don't agree on football philosophy, but we can still win." The Vikings PR department must have been working overtime these last few days.

Childress is an idiot if he's not letting Favre call audibles. I've always thought Favre's strongest suit was what he does between breaking from the huddle and the time the ball is snapped. That said, a player, ANY player, should never undermine his coach. Chilly is going to have a hard time getting respect from his team next year.

12. Huh?
The talking heads are pretty much Favre worshippers who believe everything he does is right. BrettFavre is the last person being "persecuted" by the sports media.

13. I never once claimed any kind of persecution.
Only that when the whole drama was going on before the season started, there were quite a few detractors (most notably bitter Packer fans) who said it would never work, Favre would stink, etc. When he didn't stink but instead started having one of the best seasons of his career, yes of course most of the media jumped on the Favre worship train, as they did in his umpteen years in Green Bay.

Here's one little tidbit:

(about vikings) "They have so many weapons. I don't know which ones to like more." Wow, biased much???

18. The announcers could be referring to...
the Packers becoming the 2nd team in NFL history to have 6 players with 4O or more receptions.

6. More on this:
ESPN, 12-23-09

MINNEAPOLIS -- The tension between Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre and coach Brad Childress is the result of disagreement over how much influence each should expect to have in running the offense during games, according to multiple team sources.

Childress has a reputation for limiting the number of audibles he allows his quarterbacks to call at the line of scrimmage. Favre apparently believes his knowledge of the offensive system and 19 years of NFL experience qualify him to make changes based on his extensive film study of opponents.

<snip>

According to sources, Favre dislikes that Childress seldom discusses the game plan with him during the week, and does not encourage the quarterback to offer suggestions as to which plays he feels most comfortable calling in certain situations. When Favre changes the play at the line of scrimmage -- using his film study and experience -- Childress bristles, even when the audible Favre calls works perfectly.

"I think there are times I see things that maybe I feel like we could get to or a change that maybe at the line of scrimmage I could get to. As I've told Darrell and I've told and anyone who has ever played the game - we all think we know it all at some point. I know that's not the case," Favre said.

I side with Favre on this. Let him audible to his hearts content.

7. I really hate that idea. As a Lions fan, under Martz, NO audibles

were allowed. Zero.

Absolute stupidity. If your quarterback can't read the defence and adjust accordingly he shouldn't be playing.

Fuck that brought up bad memories, lol.

Totally agree with Favre. For gawds sake he's been playing great, as much as I hate to say it. They should think about sitting him more for the playoffs though...

8. Just remember, Favre is full of shit, and the espn reporters bend over for him...
...sorry to be graphic, but he could be lying through his teeth and they'd hold it up as gospel truth. Remember, he pulled this shit and these lies with two other coaches...his schtick is getting old.

11. As a Packer fan, I agree completely
Let him start running the offense, so he can throw six picks in a big playoff game.

10. HA HA HA HA still happy Vikings fans?
Funny thing is, Childress is doing the right thing by sticking with the strategy that has virtually locked up the #2 spot in the playoffs so far. Letting Brett audible and throw means more interceptions. Of course, the High Cult of BrettFavre will ensure that it's all his fault, because Favre can, of course, do no wrong.

14. It was overblown controversy of the week
Edited on Tue Dec-29-09 12:05 AM by JonLP24
The week before that it was Randy Moss "lack of effort" fueled by comments of the secondary of the losing team.

Last week it was Favre & Childress.

Overblown controversy of this week will the Colts sitting starters at halftime.

Anyways Bears are close to field goal range but no fault of Favre. 2 touchdowns including a game tying one on 4th down with little time left. Also a 8 YPA
