Should teams name themselves after cities where they don't play? |
|
Shouldn't it be the Arlington Cowboys, the Landover Redskins, the Auburn Hills Pistons?
And don't get me started about the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Have you ever looked at a map?
It's over 100 miles from Wake Forest NC to where the Deacons play their "home" games.

I believe in those cases they were named for a neighboring main city.
About 15+ years ago the Cardinals were once known as the 'Phoenix' Cardinals even though they never played a game IN Phoenix but neighboring Tempe. So I can't remember why but they changed to the 'Arizona Cardinals'.
I had no idea about Wake Forest. I never knew there was an actual city 'Wake Forest' from what I know their campus and athletic facilities are in Winston-Salem. I never put much thought into the name 'Wake Forest', I imagined it was like 'Rice' in Houston.

3. Wake Forest is named for what used to be a forest in Wake County |
|
Don't know where the name Wake comes from originally.

Phins the hardest.

At least the Nets are honest. They play in New Jersey and call themselves the New Jersey Nets.

Last regular season game played at Milwaukee. Brett Favre scored on a 9-yard line TD with 14 seconds left to defeat the Atlanta Falcons.
