Challenge accepted: Carroll signs five-year deal to coach Seahawks
Source: NFL

Pete Carroll loves challenges and the NFL game. The Seattle Seahawks offered both, and not even USC could compete with that.

Carroll ended his nine-year tenure with the Trojans on Monday, signing what NFL Network's Michael Lombardi reports is a five-year, $35 million contract to return to the NFL as coach of the Seahawks.

"If you know anything about me, you know I can't pass up this challenge," Carroll said.

Carroll's hiring capped a busy weekend for Seahawks chief executive Tod Leiweke. The team fired coach Jim Mora on Friday after only one season, and Leiweke spent Sunday in Southern California completing a deal with Carroll.

1. Just hope this isn't a repeat of the Dennis Erickson fiasco
Just because a coach has a great record in college football doesn't necessarily mean he will in the NFL.

Fortunately, they're bringing Carroll early, so he'll have the full off season to pull something together and hopefully make it a reality next Fall.

3. The things was that he wasn't that great in the NFL before.
Granted, he coached my Jets during one of our darkest periods, but he turned a Super Bowl contender Pats team into a mediocre squad until they bumbled upon a certain QB from Michigan.

4. Yeah, I'm not surprised to hear that.
The NCAA can't stand any Pac10 teams having consistent winning seasons. They brought down the UW Huskies when they had "too many" winning seasons, now they're doing the same to USC. When the Hell are they going to do the same to Ohio State, or all the overrated teams in Florida?

6. It wasn't a "challenge", he knows the NCAA dogs are after him at USC. He does not want to be
coaching under suspention.
