Sources: Kiffin to USC

Tennessee's Lane Kiffin has agreed in principle to become the next head coach at Southern California, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Chris Low on Tuesday.

Kiffin would replace Pete Carroll, who jumped to the NFL as coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

Kiffin, the former Oakland Raiders coach, led the Volunteers for only one season.

Sources told ESPN Kiffin will bring his father and defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, and assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron to Southern Cal with him, and wide receivers coach Kippy Brown will be named interim head coach at Tennessee.

Again, everyone laughed when failed NFL coach, Pete Carroll, was given the job. No one thought that was a good move at the time either.

Just being at USC alone will give Kiffin an edge in recruiting that he didn't have at Tenn. Winning the the Pac-10 title is a piece of cake compared to the SEC.

Also, recall that Kiffin was the Offensive coordinator under Carroll.

So, we will see.

As for speed kills, I am still correct about that. One off year does not disprove my theory. There just weren't any big time speed players this year.

USC hired someone familiar with the program and was one of its architects. In addition, he's bringing his professional defensive coach dad with him.
