Gilbert Arenas charged with felony
ESPN.com news services / January 14th 2010

WASHINGTON -- Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas has been charged with a felony in connection with last month's locker room confrontation with a teammate.

Arenas, who was suspended indefinitely without pay by NBA commissioner David Stern last week, was charged with carrying a pistol without a license outside a home or business.

The charges were filed in D.C. Superior Court in an "information," a document that generally signals a plea deal.

The Washington Post reported if convicted, Arenas could face a maximum five years in jail and a fine.

3. Some legal "expert" said your dream is probably going to come true...
...apparently this is Gilbert's SECOND weapons offense, so the judge will probably make him serve time.

4. I Heard A Legal Analyst On The Radio This Morning, , ,
, , ,that said pretty much the same thing. I can't recall his name but he's the legal consultant to WSCR in Chicago.

He predicted that he would serve some small sentence, maybe only 30 days. But, he agrees with whomever you heard.

6. A guilty plea to a felony would invoke an automatic 10-game suspension too,

or lead possibly to having his contract terminated.

From the NBA:

A team can terminate a player's contract if he is deemed to have engaged in acts of "moral turpitude", whether or not such actions actually constitute a crime. However, a source with the player's union said Thursday that it would be extremely unlikely for the Wizards to successfully go after Arenas based on the moral turpitude clause.

NBA Commissioner David Stern suspended Arenas indefinitely Jan. 6, saying that the 28-year-old former All-Star was "not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game." The league is conducting its own investigation into the incident, but has been waiting until the legal process was completed before deciding whether or not to punish Arenas further.

what the heck IS? The NBA has to dump him.

The prosecution said that Arenas...and the player got into an argument over a card game. The other player suggested that he and Arenas have a fistfight...Arenas...suggested he would burn the player’s vehicle or shoot him in the face. The other player said he would shoot Arenas in his knee. Arenas told members of the Wizards’ organization that the statements were made in jest.

On Dec. 21, at about 9:30 a.m., according to the statement, Arenas entered the Wizards’ locker room wearing a backpack over his chest...Arenas walked from his locker to the locker of the player, opened the backpack and placed four unloaded firearms on a chair near the player’s locker. Arenas wrote “Pick 1” on a piece of paper and placed it on the player’s chair...

When the other player entered the locker room, he asked Arenas, “What is this?” Arenas told the player that he said he was going to shoot him, so he should pick one of the weapons...(T)he other player told Arenas he did not need one of Arenas’s guns because he had his own. He then threw one of Arenas’s firearms across the room. Arenas saw the other player display what looked like a silver-colored, semiautomatic handgun...

Arenas placed the firearms inside his locker before putting them into a suitcase. He gave the suitcase to a teammate and instructed him to place them in Arenas’s car...

5. According to the WaPo, Arenas is set to plead guilty to one felony count
of carrying a pistol without a license. The plea agreement should allow him either a short prison sentence or probation.

in a "misguided effort to play a joke" on a teammate following a gambling dispute during a team flight...

Gambling + dispute + teammate + guns = zero future NBA career, Gilbert Arenas.
