ESPN crawl: Tennessee to hire LA Tech coach
Just saw on ESPN that Tennessee is on track to hire LA Tech coach Derek Dooley. Dooley is the son of famed coach Vince Dooley.

Ooh, I found a linky: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4829107

2. I'm listening to him now (Vol fan here).... he sounds like a good fit.
Much better than Kiffin (as far as being comfortable in the SEC).
Kiffin obviously wanted to be in California.

Now let's give him 3-4 years to see what he can do.

4. He won't be given 3-4 years.
Vols want to erase the memory of Kiffin right now.

3. like his predecessor, he's the son of a famous coach and comes to Tennessee with a losing record
Maybe he'll be a good fit at Tennessee, I don't know. But I think it's odd that fourteen months after firing Fulmer they're bringing in a coach who finished in the bottom half of the WAC this year.

5. my local sports TV guy said he's reminded of Mike Shula
Former Alabama coach. Not meant as praise, I think.

That's damning with faint praise, or praising with faint damns. One or the other. But it ain't good.

7. I agree
I think Mike Shula is a decent guy, even though, apparently, he was a fan of W. But he just isn't cut out to be a head college coach. Maybe in the pros, I don't know. I think he's a decent QB coach. And his wife is cute. :)

8. I hope he does well.
I'm an SEC fan and root for the SEC East.

I hope he hears "Rocky Top" a lot.
