Racism in the Obama Era: The All-White Basketball League
This was bound to happen...not the basketball part, but the "all-white" part in which guarantees of good behavior fly like the racism.

You may think you've seen it all.
Still, you're not gonna believe this.

The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening that it intends to start its inaugural season in June and hopes Augusta will be one of 12 cities with a team.

"Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league," the statement said.

Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver, who has publicly expressed his support for minor league teams in the past, said he would not do the same for this team. Don "Moose" Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league's roster restrictions is not racism.

"There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," he said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now.
Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like."

Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color."
He pointed out recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas' indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans' dissatisfaction with the way current professional sports are run.

"Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?" he said. "That's the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction."

I wonder if they allow their player to wear long baggy shorts and dunk during the games?
Or is that not allowed because it's "not white"?
God, the stupid is strong in this one.

15. I'm waiting for the league store to open up online
so I can order a pair of Augusta Supremacist John Stockton style nuthugger shorts.

This idea is so monumentally stupid I'm expecting Dr. Naismith to rise from the dead to kick the ass of the dumbfuck who thought it up.

Rambis was no pussy either. At least he didn't go behind the refs like Lambeer who if he did the shit he did out on the street he would have gotten his ass kicked.

7. The truth on white players
The truth of the matter is that white people in America have given up. The NBA has many white players including one Steve Nash who is great. Many Europeans compete and do very well. No one told them they couldn't compete.

Case in point. A friend of mine played college basketball and was invited to go out for maryland when he transferred in. He didn't make the squad but I played him and he was 6"3 and a very good guard. He ran me over on a fast break when we were playing in a YMCA`league. Of course, by this time I was 46 and really bad.

His son is 6'5' and he gave up basketball. He plays golf. He's a wimp. It would have been easier to get a scholarship as a basketball player than as a golfer. He has the genes and the size.

Now the high school he attends has 3 pro's coming out of it. This is high caliber ball.

He's too chickenshit to play.

That is the story of white players in America.

So, gee, perhaps we ought not to judge anyone by skin color, but rather by content of character? D'oh.

This new B-ball league 'idea' is dribbling drool all over the freaking place.

17. There's already an all-white sports league; it's called the NHL
Yeah, there's a few tokens, true. But they have to be Canadian.

National Honkey League?

18. Tokens?
The funny thing about that is that the nearest thing to racial politics in the NHL is the French/English Canadian divide, along with the North American/European divide. I think a francophone black player will thrive in Montreal more readily than a white Russian.

And Canadian? Check out this list - there definitely non-Canadians here. And the latest K Chronicles highlights Georges Laraque's Haitian roots.

There's an interesting history of "Black Hockey" that says there had been an unofficial "color line" in hockey but breaking into the league was not the trauma for Willie O'Ree that breaking into major league baseball was for Jackie Robinson.

I learned to play hockey in the Detroit Parks & Rec house league system in the early '70s, and as a kid all I knew about the black kids on the team was their game. I'll never forget the star center on my first team - I tried to feed Kevin the puck every chance I got, and his dark skin didn't matter to anyone as far as I could tell. Like the white kids, some were very good and some were not. And when I think about black hockey players I think of Grant Fuhr, Jarome Iginla, guys like that - star players, not tokens. I'd love to see more, of course, but hockey is an expensive sport - it's no surprise that the athletic talent of an economically-disadvantaged minority group gets channeled into a game you can play on any street with 1 ball per 10 players or even more expensive sports like football that the school system chooses to subsidize.

The NHL has tried for years to make hockey big in the south. It's been a tough sell. The problem is, few people there grow up on skates.

19. This Guy Is An Idiot
One of the most fundamental players in basketball is Tim Duncan. As far as I know Duncan is an African American. In addition, I think the San Antonio Spurs are one of the most fundamental teams in the league and their roster is very multi-cultural and multi-racial.

What a buffoon!

And, "fundemental basketball" is code word for SLOW, BORING, BELOW THE RIM played by SHORT guys or tall guys who have the coordination of a two legged giraffe.

Basketball is NOT better played badly. Never has been, never will be.
