Ken Burns is doing another baseball documentary (attn: Red Sox fans)
Burns sends Sox to extra innings
Filmmaker asks for fans’ 2004 photos
By Chad Finn

Globe Staff / January 22, 2010

Attention, Red Sox fans. Time to open that scrapbook or photo album from October 2004. Ken Burns wants to share in your memories, and perhaps help you revel in them again.

Burns, the acclaimed documentary filmmaker and an unabashed Red Sox fan, is in the process of editing his follow-up to his Emmy Award-winning 1994 PBS documentary series “Baseball,’’ which offered a rich narration of the history and personalities of the game in 18 1/2 hours over nine episodes, or “innings,’’ as Burns tagged them.

The sequel to “Baseball’’ will air over two nights in October on PBS, running four hours.

The epic and improbable Red Sox run to the 2004 World Series championship will be prominently emphasized, Burns said via telephone this week from his Florentine Films offices in New York. And that’s where Burns’s request comes in.

He is asking that Red Sox fans submit their personal photos from that delightful autumn for possible inclusion in the film. The e-mail address is photos@florentinefilms.com.

“Baseball is a precise mirror of who we are, and I can’t recall a time that was more evident, particularly considering the deep emotional, communal, and personal impact, than during the 2004 ALCS when the Red Sox overcame the Yankees,’’ said Burns.

3. I spent Christmas day re-watching the documentary on MLB
Network. I hope he features the Phillies in this one -- hopes aren't too high though.

5. You beat me to it.
Burns should spend at least a few hours talking about Manny* and why Curt Schilling is such a prick.

7. If he's going to talk about the the Sox and Yankees of the last 15 years,
He SHOULD talk about Manny* as well as Ortiz*, A-Rod*, Giambi*, Sheffield*, Pettitte*, Clemens*, Kevin Brown*, Jose Canseco*, David Justice*, Ricky Bones*, Bobby Estalella*, Jason Grimsley*, Glenallen Hill*, Darren Holmes*, "Knobby"*, Dan Naulty*, Denny Neagle*, Mike Stanton*, Randy Velarde*, Ron Villone*, Rondell White* and Todd Williams*.

9. To be followed up by roids, PEDS, and a quarter billion dollars
and the buying of a championship.

Yeap. Support your local unaffiliated minor league team!
