NFL Super Bowl Pick (with point spread) |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-27-10 04:49 PM by Auggie
Opening spread of 5.5 seems to be holding -- let's begin. Picks are due before kick-off, Sunday February 7th.
FAVORITE / Spread / Underdog
INDIANAPOLIS / 5.5 / New Orleans
Auggie picks New Orleans.
Usually I would take the quarterback with more playoff experience. But I like the aggressive defense New Orleans has been playing in the post season plus the balanced offense they've played all year long. Both teams have had success playing on grass so I don't think that will be a factor. 5.5 points is out of my comfort zone in a game featuring these two -- so I'll pick the underdog Saints. Besides, I really want them to win.
STANDINGS
After 20 weeks Condem and JonLP24 are tied in the total standings at 131 wins and 119 losses. That is amazing. The winner will receive absolutely nothing unless you believe a years worth of bragging rights in this forum is something of value (if you do believe that, please seek help).
In the playoffs JonLP24 and joeybee12 are tied at 7-3 with Forkboy one game behind at 6-4. It's possible you three could tie here as well.
If any four of you want to be crowned the definitive winner in your respective division I suggest you post the total number of points you think will be scored in the game along with your pick. No over/under -- just the total number of points scored by both teams. First to post gets that number. If someone already has already taken your number choose another. If you have a better idea let me know.
Thanks for playing along this year. Final thanks to JonLP24 for suggesting and keeping a running tally of results. It added immeasurable value.

As you know I'm waiting for Condem so I can pick the opposite. I'll have full standings next week because I have time and the break would be nice. :) Good work with including first and second places for the standings.

2. I'm kinda amazed I'm doing so well in the playoffs...I've been picking teams I WANT |
|
to lose so if I pick them to win, it'll jinx them. That said, I gotta think through my final pick so that Satan does not triumph.

|
I think deserving of a mention. Now, Jon, I never pick until the final moment. But I will give you a clue. The QB is named after a Civil War Vet.

Condem is right. You're still in this thing and could win it all. Please add a total number of points scored to your pick.

8. I don't think the Saints defense can hold up |
|
1. Peyton Manning torched one of the best pass defenses in the league last weekend. The Jets only allowed eight touchdown passes all year. Manning threw three.
2. Against the Jets, the Colts running game was actually respectable, a welcome change. Shockingly, the Colts defense managed to shut down the one of the best running attacks in the NFL this year.
3. BrettFavre put up 300+ against that Saints defense, and, frankly, the main reason the Vikings lost at all are turnovers, which are death in the postseason. It seems most of the turnovers by the Vikings were of the unforced variety, rather than an aggressive defense.
4. About the only way that the Saints can win is to take advantage of an average Colts pass defense, which has allowed a quarterback rating of around 80. Brees did not put up great numbers against the Vikings, who had one of the worst pass defenses the entire season.
I think the Saints may make it close, but Indianapolis is the safe bet.

Thanks for doing this all year Auggie, and thanks to Jon for keeping score. Picking the games always makes each week a little more fun! :toast:
Oh, and 51 points....because that was Butkus' number. I know that has nothing to do with either team, but Butkus is still my favorite player. :)

New Orleans doesn't have the defense to stop Manning and the Colts. They're going to get ripped.

the Dolts. I think I'm gonna be wrong, but this will ensure there will be an outright playoff winner. I guess for points I'll go with 57.

20. UPDATE: There's been a half point change |
|
Now it's Indianapolis -5. Probably because of Freeney's uncertain playing status.
I'm sticking with the Saints.

My overall score is currently a push(35-30 Colts) So I'll go with 35-31(66pts) Colts. In other words still taking the Saints/Under.

The playoff standings are ranked by most wins, than best record with those wins such as (3-1) tops (3-3). The overall standings are based on winning percentage, those below the line didn't play enough weeks to qualify, playoffs count as 1 week because of the limited amount of games. Also sorry I took so long, I was stalling.

JoeyBee12 wins the playoffs outright.

|
we were tied after the conference title games but Condem picked the Colts and I picked the under/Saints(I did predict the Colts would win but by 4 meaning under the 5 point spread)
However Condem lead every single week until today so he deserves A LOT of credit. :)
