NASCAR owner blasts Detroit |
|
Further proof to me that NASCAR isn't for our best and brightest; he blasts Detroit even though his sponsors include Chevy and Penske... http://freep.com/article/20100128/SPORTS16/100128067/1356/SPORTS/NASCAR-team-owner-blasts-Detroit-Michigan

1. Good for him to stand up to sponsors |
|
Too many people are too afraid of doing that. There is plenty to criticize Detroit automakers about. And since I'm now an investor in two of the Big Three, I'm glad to see it.

3. He made some pretty nasty cracks about the city and state |
|
"I mean, there's nobody left in Detroit other than the police and the unemployed," Sabates told the site. 'I'd cut Michigan off the schedule altogether. Michigan -- I'm talking about the state -- is never coming back to what it used to be, so why go there and throw good money after bad money?"
I don't see anything that says anything about a US automaker here. It's just a nasty swipe at a state that's been battered more than any other during the last decade. And if our cars are so awful why does he accept their sponsor dollars?
I AM SO DAMN SICK OF PEOPLE WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MICHIGAN TAKING JABS AT MY STATE! Furthermore, Detroit does not define Michigan, MIS is not in Detroit, and this guy is a blooming idiot. MIS sells out, traffic is backed up for miles to get there, and it sells out all the hotels in my city which is 40 miles away.

6. Appears to be...he gave $16,500 to Republican causes/candidates in 2008 |
|
And $500 to a Democratic congressional candidate.

Jamie McMurray in the #1 car & Juan Pablo Montoya in the #42.
Maybe Tony Stewart will take care of JP Montoya this year.

7. He knows how to backpedal too -- now has issued an apology |

Is trying to pretend he was just trying to be funny. If he was, he failed miserably and I don't buy it anyway. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/auto_racing/story/311551.html

There was nothing in his comments that indicated humour. Throwing good money after bad? Michigan's never coming back? No one could interpret those as jokes. Screw that rotten old crank.

I guess I didn't pick up on his subtle humor, either.
