Penguins Fire Back After Column Starts Crosby-Letterman Controversy
Good for Sid.

The Penguins' locker room is defending team captain Sidney Crosby from unattributed criticism of his decision not to go on "The Late Show With David Letterman."
"I read what they wrote about him and I think that's (expletive)," teammate Max Talbot said Wednesday.
"I think before anybody should weigh criticism, I'd ask them to walk a week in his shoes and see how many times they say 'yes' and they say 'no' to what he does," head coach Dan Bylsma said.

2. Yet another reason to dislike him
Don't forget - the guy who didn't shake the hand of the Red Wings' captain after his team won the Cup.

If he is overwhelmed and can't handle all this, then perhaps he should not be the Penguins' captain.

What's wrong with him, anyway?

3. You are wrong on this one.
He shook hands with half the team, the other half had already left the ice.

4. Because he was doing interviews when he should have been shaking hands
Quote from after the game:

"After watching Pittsburgh hoist the Cup on Detroit’s ice, the Red Wings lined up to shake hands with the Penguins as is custom in the NHL playoffs.

Detroit captain Nicklas Lidstrom was up front, followed by alternate captain Kris Draper, congratulating many of the new champions while waiting for Pittsburgh’s captain.

"Nick was waiting and waiting, and Crosby didn’t come over to shake his hand," Draper told an Associated Press reporter a couple hours after the game, as he was leaving Joe Louis Arena. "That’s ridiculous, especially as their captain, and make sure you write that I said that!""

The Red Wings did not wait to shake hands. As anyone who respects the tradition of the Stanley Cup knows, the handshake is the first order of business.

If Crosby is too much of a glam boy to shake hands with the other team's captain, that's fine, but then the Penguins should not accord him the honor of being their captain. He clearly is not mature enough for the task.

5. Yes, because Sir Sidney was celebrating with his teammates and giving interviews
And the Wings got tired of waiting.

The handshake comes first, especially from the captain. He is universally disliked in Michigan, not because the Pens won the cup but because of this disprespectful behavior. Steve Yzerman would never have behaved like that nor would Gordie Howe. Or Mario Lemieux.

6. Not a Crosby fan by any means, but that's stupid stuff to worry about.
Yeah, he should have done it, but saying he should resign as captain over it is dumb beyond words. It was mistake, but the people still whining about it are acting as immature as they accuse Crosby of being.

7. So why did he snub Letterman?
Does he just think he's too good for everyone?

The broader point is, if he can't handle it all, perhaps his captaincy chores are too onerous.

8. Is there a law that says any NHL captain has to make an appearaence?
In the middle of the season, no less? You're clearly bitter, but this is dumb. His "captaincy chores" are ensuring his team has success, not making tv appearances on Late Night. You need to have a joint and relax, and worry about Detroit making the playoffs. Crosby-hating isn't worth any points in the standings.

10. Well, considering how much Canada pinned its Olympic dreams on the hockey gold
And Sir Sidney scored the winning goal, I think it's a pretty huge deal AND it's good for Team Canada, his home country, and his current team. Why not? Does it really take that much away from the season?

11. No, it wouldn't have killed him, but who cares?
Him going is no big deal and him not going is no big deal. The only people upset are those with no love for Crosby to start with though, from what I'm seeing, and seem happy to find something to express that existing dislike over. But really, it's David Letterman..he didn't turn down a visit with Mandela or anything.

In his place I would have done it, but him not going is so silly a thing to get upset at him for.

12. It's not a big deal
I just meant it was typical behavior for him.
