My Thursday morning coffee spew! :rofl:

This came from a commenter on SI after reading that Tim Tebow scored a 22 on the Wonderlic test.

Here's the story:

The heavily-guarded Wonderlic test scores from the NFL Scouting Combine have started to leak out. From the Twitter page of Palm Beach Post writer Edgar Thompson:

Gators QB Tim Tebow scored a 22 on his Wonderlic, Jimmy Clausen 23, Colt McCoy 25 and Sam Bradford 36 out of 50, per NFL source.

The Wonderlic, a timed, 50-question exercise, tests the aptitude of draft prospects. The official results of the tests are distributed by the NFL to the 32 teams after the combine, with scores occasionally leaking out. Other noteworthy QB scores that have been reported in the past: Ryan Fitzpatrick (Harvard) 49, QB Matthew Stafford (Georgia) 38, QB Mark Sanchez (28), Michael Vick (20) and Vince Young (15, after getting a 6 on first attempt).

2. I personally think it's a stupid test...
Marino scored a 15---

Vince Young a 6 on his first go around...

Marino--HOF--- Young---All Pro.

4. Maybe not...
Marino couldn't win a big game (8-10 in playoffs)..contrast that with Montana's SF playoff record of 14-5. Meanwhile Young has had an inconsistent career so far..

5. Montana had a better team surrounding him
Doesn't make Marino less of a QB.

What about the 49ers own Nate Davis, drafted just last year? He has significant reading and comprehension problems -- well-known as a learning-disabled quarterback -- but led two come-from-behind wins in exhibition season against Dallas and Oakland. Pretty nice debut, even for preseason.

because if not for Joe, who knows? The Dolphins may have won SB XIX...giving Marino the SB win that his career so sorely lacked..

Hey, I see where old noodle arm resigned with the Dolphins. I have to admit it's fun watching him play. I mean, sometimes he really muscles up and throws the ball a whole 20 yards downfield ! :rofl:

6. ESPN says:
"According to the newspaper, he graduated with a 3.66 GPA majoring in family, youth and community services."

I don't remember that Major when I went to college.

they probably gave him AP credits for his family's weird mission business.

Home-schooled boy scored dumb on the QB test. What a shock!

And I say that as a Patriots fan.

24. Um, I think Dan Marino scored in the teens.
So in fairness to Saint Timothy of Tebow, the Wonderlic isn't the best indicator of QB ability.

26. Well, it's always fun to mock Tebow
even if it has no bearing on his QB career.

He's actually not much below average for his position. Per Wikipedia, average scores by position:

* Offensive tackle – 26
* Center – 25
* Quarterback – 24
* Guard – 23
* Tight end – 22
* Safety – 19
* Linebacker – 19
* Cornerback – 18
* Wide receiver – 17
* Fullback – 17
* Halfback – 16

27. I love that the big stinks on the O-Line are always the smartest dudes...
on most teams.
Most of the good ones play forever, and they move maybe six or eight feet either way all day long.
And the really good ones get PAID.

No wonder why most of them don't talk during the season.
They don't have to.

29. As my father used to say
"An empty barrel makes the most noise."

The other thing about those guys is the fact that they give the lie to the term "skill position." What "skill position" really means is that you catch, kick, throw or carry the ball - period. Yeah, you need the mass and strength to play O-line, but can anyone really believe that doesn't take skill? You need to be on the same page with the "skill" guys behind you - whom you *cannot* see. You need to have solid technique against a wide range of rushers. You have to know when you can release on screen plays... there's a lot going on! And you also need a level head. There's a reason you want smart guys in those positions!
