2. The refs have been turning a blind eye to that for a long long time.
Personally I never saw why it needed to be illegal. What I miss are the shattered backboards whenever Daryl Dawkins did a monster dunk.

3. I don't think it is, I think supposedly may be allowed to just for a sec
or so as accidental contact or to balance yourself...but it's always more than that and essentially showing off.

4. I don't see what's wrong with showing off. They should amend the rule
so that players can hang on the rim just long enough to say "my good fellow, I have crashed the rim right over your attempt to defend me! You need to improve your game, sirrah!"

Who wouldn't love that?
