Big East FAIL
Villanova needs OT to beat Robert Morris. Georgetown gets dominated by Ohio. Notre Dame loses to Old Dominion, and Marquette goes down to Washington. G

2. Big day for the Big Ten, tomorrow, Mad.
The Big East looked awful. It's not football. Only 13 scholies.

6. A Little Luck. A Little Bad Officiating
Well, a lot of bad officiating. If not for those two thing, Nova would have been beaten by 8 in regulation.

7. I still don't think the league is overrated
but they haven't proved too much this tourney, so far. Night in and night out, I still believe it was the best conference in America followed by Big 12.

8. Don't Know About That, Big
When you get a record tying 8 teams in the tournament, and then lose 4 games in the first round, 3 against teams with lower seeds, it's hard to make that case.

Just like the others in the Big 6, at the top they're very good. Well, so is Duke, Kansas, Michgan State, Kentucky, . . .

But, i think their television contract and national exposure creates a sense of familiarity that makes folks believe the hype. Folks all over the country don't see Kentucky on TV every week. Or MSU, or Kansas.

Then, because they have the hype, people assume a 7 loss team must be good because the conference is all beating up on one another. If there really were 3 great teams there, that might be true, but other than Syracuse, who is the particularly good team? Georgetown? Oops. Villanova puked on themselves, and just got away with it.

And i've always felt the Big East team tend to "cupcake" their non-conference games.

I just don't think that conference is all that. And, it hasn't been for a REALLY long time.

9. I'm not so sure I would say
Edited on Sat Mar-20-10 06:40 AM by JonLP24
that they haven't been all that for a REALLY long time. Last year you had 2 in the Final 4, 4 in the Elite 8. Granted none actually went to the title game but having 4 out of the last 8 at seasons end when there is around 350 teams is pretty impressive. Now they haven't won any title games in 5 years but this drought is coming off a back-to-back title wins in Uconn & Syracuse.

If you're using higher standards by what you say in "all that" then I concede. I admit I'm not much of an expert when it comes to college basketball. I won't say they are the best conference then again I'm not sure who is. ESPN most of the year says it was the Big 10 but they had a few early round scares in NMST, Wofford, etc. I think with any conference you'll see a year that a rep from a certain conference wins it all but the year prior or year after the certain conference doesn't send anyone in to the Final 4.

Edit/If you wondering why I'm not addressing the rest of what you said and only focusing on your last sentence it's 'cause everything else said are valid points and I don't disagree. I don't know anything about a TV contract though, I see a little bit of everybody when it comes to national broadcasts but college basketball gets somewhat lost in the shuffle for me due to the NFL and College Football early in the season. NBA games where I like to watch all the top teams including the Suns. The Olympics and Coyotes games.
