1. **ck Notre Dame. They are irrelevant as a real competitor in the NCAA.
Edited on Wed Apr-07-10 07:43 PM by madinmaryland
Let them join the MAC and make that a "Super Conference"

I'd be happy to see a Pitt or WVA join the Big Ten. **ck Notre Dame! Their next football contract will have them on CNBC!

2. Disagree, mad.
I would LOVE to have them. Simply. For the entertainment quotient it would provide the legendary Sports Forum. Think of the threads every time ND plays. READ the articles, mad. Delany is about to change the whole landscape. Fascinating what the Big Ten could become.

4. I read the articles
and they're nothing but speculation. Interesting that both pieces end similarly:

I'm not saying it's going to happen. I'm saying the components are in place for it to happen.

Only the man at the controls of that killer asteroid knows for sure.

And:

None of this could happen. Or all of it could. So stay tuned.

Looks like these writers have a lot of time on their hands..

6. Upton. They were in Indy.
Not fucking San Antonio. Every AD and coach in the nation was present. Meetings took place. This, sir, is much more than idle speculation.

and Upton is west of the Rockies.

Get your facts straight!

And the only AD's or coaches there were of the participants. All Womens BBall emphasized this year was what a fucking snore it truly is.

17. Well, if the big ten goes to 16 teams in football, I think it will be a total disgrace.
They may even lose me. As you have said it's only for the greed. I don't want the big ten to be like the sec or the fucking yankmees.

than thou attitude. Screw that. BTW, I don't want Liberty, Oral Roberts, or Bob Jones Universities in our conference either.

30. Sorry, Con, but I cannot agree with you.
I have no desire to see them desecrate the Big 10. I would happily see them join the WAC or Big Sky Conference. At least then, upton could not bitch about that "east coast bias".

5. Staying put isn't an option, Mad.
You know that. The easy thing is to add ND. But I think we add Rutgers, Mizzou and Pitt along with the Irish. The Big Ten will own at least 40%
of the nations TV's. Maybe more. It's mind boggling. The revenue at stake with this move.

7. A bloated conference for football is ridiculously stupid
Not looking at money, it would suck to have a conference so big with only 8 conference games.

8. It certainly isn't just football, Mad.
The Big Ten Network was Delany's baby. Adding ND would be just great. As a fan I'm going to be a bit selfish here. As a former Pennsylvanian, traveling to Pitt or NJ to see old buds and watch the Hawks kick some east coast ass, I'm all for it. Think of the Hoop league. Incredible.

So if 16 is an option, 11 certainly is too

13. Expansion never would have been brought up.
Plus, the Big Ten is spending $$ to see who adds the most $$. Certainly wouldn't do that if they planned on staying at 11. No way, Mad.

to 16 teams also. If you want new blood, why don't you just start rooting for one of those western athletic conferences that changes its names and teams every several years!

Heh. Got both you and upton in one sentence!!

34. I certainly do understand the power of the almighty dollar.
Edited on Thu Apr-08-10 09:35 PM by madinmaryland
As I worked for Merrill Lynch in the late 90's while they successfully spent millions of $'s repealing the Glass-Steagall Act, I was appalled. I knew then, that what they were advocating for would fuck this nation to hell, and it did. Seeing the internal emails every day made me want to puke.

Is that what you want to happen to the Big Ten? If so, then you really are a phony.

37. Actually, you do have the "Woody Hayes Conference" about right...
Rutgers... NFW. West Virginia, yew.

Obviously there will be no Bo Schembechler Conference without UM, so that will never happen.

Of course you could call it the MAC-2.5, and there is no way in hell Nebraska & Missouri (interesting how you snuck them into the big 10) would ever join the big 10.

Just let ND move into the MAC and this will all be a moot point, and us REAL Big 10 fans will be happy.

:hi:

38. You better rethink some of your arguments, mad.
The AD for Nebraska (Tom Osborne) and the president of Mizzou said they would both listen if the Big Ten called. This is common knowledge to anyone who has been following the expansion. West Virginia has never been considered. Thank God. We should put a little wager on this deal.

35. 12 might be OK. 16 is a joke
No league should be allowed to get so big that every team can't play every other team at least once a season in every sport.

36. Then with your argument, the Big ten is too big as is.
I agree that 16 is a joke, but they only have 8 conference games in football and 11 teams as of now. You arent going to play every team every year. It is however manageable with 12 teams. 16 teams is ridiculous.
