The 2011 NHL All-Star Game will be played at RBC Center, home of the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes made it official Thursday with a press conference in Raleigh.
"We're excited about getting the All-Star Game because it's a great even for the League and it'll obviously be a great event for Raleigh," Hurricanes President and General Manager Jim Rutherford told NHL.com.
"The fact that this event has been awarded to the Hurricanes is a testimony to the strength of the market, the strength of the franchise and, above all, the enthusiastic support the 'Caniacs' show for their team," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "RBC Center will provide the perfect showcase as the eyes of the hockey world focus on the Triangle, its fantastic arena and its truly outstanding hockey fans."
The All-Star Game was not held this year because of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The League took a two-week sabbatical in February before resuming play in March.
"As we continue to grow our market, this event just brings more attention to the NHL and to the Carolina Hurricanes," Rutherford said. "It just gives us another year where there's focus on the Hurricanes' organization. We went to the Cup Final in 2002, hosted the Draft in '04, won the Cup in '06 and reached the Conference Finals in '09 and now we get the All-Star Game. That's a pretty good run for our market."
