UConn's Charles taken No. 1 overall
SECAUCUS, N.J. -- It's been an unforgettable 48 hours for Tina Charles.

Less than two days after helping UConn win its second straight national championship, she was selected first by the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA draft on Thursday.

"It's unbelievable, my heart is still pounding out of my chest," Charles said. "I'm more interested what impact I'll have on the team more than just being the No. 1 pick."

Tina Charles became the third UConn player to be chosen with the top overall draft pick.
Charles averaged more than 18 points and nine rebounds while leading UConn to an NCAA Division I-record 78 straight victories over the past two seasons.

The Sun traded with the Minnesota Lynx to get The Associated Press player of the year, who joins Sue Bird (2002) and Diana Taurasi (2004) as the only UConn players taken with the top overall pick. The three former Huskies as well as Candace Parker (2007) are the only four players to win a national championship and be taken first in the draft the same year.

3. Oops sorry, I forgot exactly when she was taken.
I also forgot what team she was drafted by.

I meant that laughing comment for others as I know you're fan of Womens basketball.

4. Appel went 5th?
Isn't that the same Jayne Appel who was injured in the title game?....Which coincidentally just happened to coincide with UConn's run.

5. Same one
Admittedly there are few players that I'm familiar with in college basketball and she is one of them. I meant her when she was drafted. Very good player when she wasn't injured.

6. She had injuries all year...the sprain on her ankle happened way
before the championship game....she had trouble in the semifinal also. What a stupid implication.

7. Okay...she REINJURED her ankle..
How's that? You saw it...she wasn't the same afterward. Neither was the team.

And the implication here isn't that I believe it cost Stanford the game, but of more bias... For ESPN conveniently played down the injury and the effect it had on the Stanford team, because they didn't want anything interfering with their ridiculous coronation of UConn..

8. Ridiculous coronation?
I guess you missed the part where they went 39-0. TWO YEARS IN A ROW. Not every game is a blowout.

10. Oh, and when she was not guarded she still kept missing...
...you can only blame so much on her ankle. Tina Charles is way better any way...in a different league than Appel.
