1. 2 eagles in the same round at the Masters for the first time in his career
Pretty good considering most people were predicting that he would struggle.

Derek Jeter, John Elway, Wayne Gretzky, and countless other athletes of other sports known to play golf? Tony Romo was also a pretty good golfer as well.

7. For them it's recreation, not a sport
If you can compete at a high level at something after the age of 40 . . .

IT'S NOT A SPORT

(Same goes for NASCAR)

are addicted to playing it shows it is a sport. I'm sure if you ask any one of them they will tell you it is a sport.

19. True.
I think Wake is a spry 46. He needs 18 Ws for the all-time Red Sox record, and says he wants it. So he must plan to play two more seasons, I would think. My point was just that baseball, like Nascar, must not be a real sport.

Watson was my grandmother's favorite. In the 70s!

playing for the Whalers in the mid 80's.

Hmmm. Says a lot about the "sport" of hockey!

31. You'll get no argument from me on that
I'm no doubt in the minority, but having Howe come back, with I guess it was the WHA ( I think he even pulled a Griffey and played with his son) was an embarrassing moment for that league...

A old legend like that is more of a circus sideshow than anything else...even if he can still play.

I mean, how much athletic prowess does golf really take? Apparently not much, because you see a 60 year old man near the top of the leader board.

33. I won good on that one
It was +250 (250 for every 100 risked) that Tiger would go below 70.5.

I posted on a couple of sites that it was an excellent investment. Troubled athletes invariably step up in the first outing, when their pride is challenged and they are determined to make a statement. The sharp guys in Las Vegas taught me decades ago to bet on an injured top team in its first game. The problems and rust show up later.

Tiger continues to get the breaks off the branches, poor drives knocked into play on 10 and 11. That being said, he could have shot 65 or lower with good putting. More margin for error than any athlete I've ever seen.

Supposedly it rained hard at Augusta tonight. That works in Tiger's favor with an early Friday tee time. The greens should be soft and receptive.

37. Yep--third place and four under after the first round is VERY bad news for the field
Edited on Fri Apr-09-10 08:01 AM by rocktivity
A top five finish would be embarrassing enough. But if Tiger does gets a green jacket out this, it's going to make a devastating statement about the overall quality (and by extension, financial worth) of professional golf, which means sponsors and advertisers can look forward to lower fees. (No wonder Nike decided to take a gamble on forgiving him.) A story in my local paper suggested that Tiger's four-month layoff may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for his bad knees.
