UT Claims Second Straight Big 12 Baseball Regular Season Title

by Big12Sports.com

Texas has clinched its sixth Big 12 baseball regular season championship with a 17-2 victory at No. 20 Kansas State on Saturday.

UT has posted a 20-3 record (.870) with four league contests remaining. The Longhorns, who have earned four of the last five regular season crowns, also claimed the Big 12 title in 2002, '04, '06-'07, and '09.

For the second straight week UT is ranked No. 1 in the nation. The Longhorns top the Collegiate Baseball, NCBWA and USA Today/ESPN Coaches' polls, while
Texas received a No. 2 ranking by Baseball America. UT was also the preseason No. 1 in all four polls heading into the 2010 campaign.

On May 2, Texas set the Big 12 record for consecutive conference wins (17), after completing a sweep of Baylor.

As the regular season champion, UT will be the top seed at the 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship scheduled for May 26-30 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The remaining seeds will be announced on Sunday, May 23.

1. Wonderful...means little
college baseball is all about the CWS. Or are you just going to proclaim UT national champions...like you did with Boise?

2. Can you say "number one seed in the college world series?"
The Horns have a leg up on that. And unlike football, there is a tournament for the national champion. So Boise State deserved the championship just as much as Alabama.

Oh, I see that Washington State is number 24. That won't get them to Omaha. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/baseball/news?slug=kr-top25rankings051710

3. The Horns will pick up the level of play in the Big Ten, El.
I look forward to seeing our future conference mates in late June in Omaha.

5. Back in play according to a number of sources today, mad.
This "population drain" can mean two things. The obvious or the not so obvious.
