The World Cup >>

The World Cup is the most widely-viewed sporting event in the world, where an estimated 715.1 million people watched the final match of the 2006 World Cup held in Germany. The next World Cup will be held in South Africa, between 11 June and 11 July 2010, and the 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil.

Sorry, I'm violating my rule of not dissing sports that I don't like. Flame away!

6. It's going to be a great match..
besides the obvious implication of wanting a step up in getting out of the group stage, this is for some very serious bragging rights.

If the US were to win, the true fans here would celebrate. OTOH, the entire country of England would feel utterly humiliated..they will not tolerate anything less than 3 points versus the Americans. So the pressure is definitely going to be on the English side.

7. I'll be up at 4:30 am every day beginning June 11 to watch
There's a pub one block from the office that's showing every match, so if I catch something on the live text updates I can run down and watch.

The Beautiful Game, man. I can't wait.

9. I think I'm going to be following it whether I want to or not
I work with a bunch of people from Africa who are REALLY excited about the World Cup. They have been talking about it like crazy. Plus I bet they find some way to stream it on their computers....
