Furyk oversleeps, is disqualified from Barclays
Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 11:42 AM by JonLP24
Jim Furyk picked a bad time to sleep in. Furyk overslept Wednesday after his cell phone alarm clock lost power overnight, causing him to be late for his pro-am tee time in The Barclays. That left PGA Tour officials no choice but to disqualify him from the first of four FedEx Cup playoff events.

A two-time winner on tour this year, Furyk is No. 3 in the standings as the race for the $10 million prize gets under way at Ridgewood Country Club without him.

It is unlikely he will fall too far down the standings, although he eliminated any chance of improving.

"I'm kicking myself," Furyk said. "I have a way of climbing into situations that are all my fault."

Have had that happen to me before. Using a phone as an alarm and it losing its power overnight.

1. Multiple back-ups are always wise.
When traveling on business, if I have to get up early for a flight or meeting or whatever, I use the radio clock in the room, my cell phone, and request a wake-up call.

2. That's SOP when hotelling it.
Cell, clock-radio, wake-up call.

Furyk oughta know that.

7. Seinfeld reference
Their visiting friend from Kenya overslept the NYC marathon even with the critical wake-up-call backup in place.

4. Where's "Fluff"?
Perhaps someone with a vested interest in his success (like his caddie) should check in on him in the morning.
