Heh He---James Madison just beat Virginia Tech...
Edited on Sat Sep-11-10 03:20 PM by trumad
That's like Appalachian State beating Michigan a couple years back.

I guess Boise didn't beat a Monster after all.

The VT loss will kill Boise big time....

2. How good is James Madison
In fairness to Michigan, ASU was 2 straight time National Champions at the time and won their third straight the year they beat Michigan.

I agree it is damaging to Boise State though it isn't their fault. Though Virginia Tech can rebound and do well in their conference.

4. Well, let's see. Georgia Tech lost. Florida State is getting creamed.
You know, you might be right.

As for Boise State, :nopity: . They abandoned the WAC, leaving both Hawai'i AND San Jose State in the lurch. Then the MWC compounded the snub by taking Nevada over UH. :grr: This just in: There are other sports besides football.

12. Boise State just showed how good they really are.
They so completely demoralized VT that VT went on to lose to James Madison.

BTW, I like Boise State more for beating the BCS BS than as a team or school. It's the same as my feelings for Utah. When they come to the Mountain West my favorite will still be TCU.

17. I was watching that live on the internets!
Can't remember any tropical storm causing damage to Big D when I lived there.

The eye of that storm went directly over San Antonio the day before.

The real rain hit around 11:30am. I was actually living thru it! No need for the internets!!

5. This brings into question just how good Boise is..
Edited on Sat Sep-11-10 05:04 PM by Upton
and they don't have anyone tough enough left on their schedule to prove anything. Play more than one difficult opponent a year, and you won't have this kind of problem.. you cartoon field posers. SOS MATTERS

There is no way BSU should now be considered for the NC game. I don't care how many cupcakes they beat, or how much the sports media wants to ram those "darling BCS busters" down our throats.

6. They got Oregon State and Fresno State left
Edited on Sat Sep-11-10 05:12 PM by JonLP24
On edit-SOS should matter to a point. What if the New Orleans Saints played a Conference USA (Or whatever you think is the easiest conference) schedule? They would be shut out of the NC.

7. Neither is currently ranked..
In fact, nobody left on Boise's schedule is..NOBODY. And we're supposed to take them seriously? The VT game was their one and only chance. Now that's gone, right along with their NC claims...

How can Boise impress, when they're not playing anybody impressive?

8. Current rankings don't mean shit
After week 8 is when they start to matter and week 15 is where they're pretty much final. Oregon State will be a difficult opponent for Boise State and Pac 10 teams this year. They have been this past decade though they haven't been able to quite catch the top spot. Fresno State is a team that recruits well and are consistently one of the top traveling teams in the nation. The reasons is they travel to Hawaii and Louisiana for a couple of conference games and they schedule top BCS opponents on the road and usually beat them. Remember they beat the Big 12 Champs Kansas State they year Oklahoma lost the BCS National Championship to LSU and played USC in what is considered one of the greatest games ever. They were a difficult opponent for Wisconsin and Cincinnati last year. Both of those teams were played on the road.

How can Boise impress, when they're not playing anybody impressive?

There is only so much they can do. I actually attended one of Boise State's first Div 1-A games in 1996 when they left the Big Sky for the now defunct Big West. Arizona State won 56-7. They were scoring touchdown after touchdown on them. Now they're moving in the Mountain West and brought two of the better WAC teams with them. I do agree with Kama would be a great choice even though they aren't exactly "Mountain West". They're moving in with TCU and I don't know if BYU is still going to be there. I'm sure they would have liked an invitation to the Pac-10. Boise State does the best they can scheduling non-conference opponents but those conference games are locked. They can't get out of them. They need invitations to better conferences. I would of like Boise State but it is clear when the Big 12 teams decided to stay the Pac-10 just wanted the 12 teams for a conference championship and just got Colorado.

I respect Boise State because of how far they have came. They are only in their 14th season in division 1 and they are showing they are one of the top teams in the nation. 40 years ago they were a Junior College team. They're teams that have been in division 1 for years and they have stayed historically bad. That to me is impressive to build a team like that.

10. You can try to prop up Boise State all you like..
but they play a soft schedule and you know it. I don't think BSU wants to join the Pac-10, for they've got a formula that's presently working pretty well....They schedule one, maybe two respectable opponents a year and then for the balance of the season play nothing but softies. While at the sametime their rivals for the NC or a BCS bowl game are having to compete in top conferences week in and week out. Then the Broncos and their PR firm rather disingenuously claim.."look at us, we have a better record"...

Remember, BSU jumped out quickly 17-0 Monday night. From that point on, up until they scored the late winning TD, they were outscored 30-9 by the same team that just lost to James Madison on their home field today....that's not my idea of a NC contender.

11. Well
I haven't seen any evidence or even any rumor of Boise State receiving a Pac-10 invite so we don't know whether they would or not. We can think all we want. They're making the Mountain West a tougher conference with their addition, and two of the better WAC teams with them. I give them credit for that. That is improving their conference schedule best they can. They didn't get an invite from the Pac-10 as far as I know. They also could of stayed in FBS. Also they do schedule tough non-conference teams when they don't have to. Their formula is they HAVE TO win in order to lesson the doubt of the skeptics. They can't lose like any of those BCS teams that lose non-conference games. Even winning doesn't do anything for them. I give them credit for how far they have came from.

21. "nothing but softies"
Every other season, Boise State has had to play at Hawai'i -- which, as with most other road opponents, including those from BCS conferences, has given them at least as good as they've got.

Wouldn't you just know it, this isn't the year they have to play there. :(

18. Exactly and that is my point
VT was by far the hardest game of the year for them and with VT losing to a cupcake like JM--- that aint good for Boise's BCS ranking.
